Title: Pedal boxes - Are they worth it?
Post by: Alienatrix on 30 May 2022, 20:02
Evening all,

Been toying with the idea of a DTUK pedal box for the GTD.

There seem to be different opinions online from Golf owners.

Anyone here had/have it on a GTD?

Is it worth it the money?

On a mk7 yes, the car is a drag to drive without one.
On a mk8 I’m not so sure. The DSG gearbox has enough lag to disguise it and I’m sure pedal response is definitely improved over the mk7(.5).
I keep mulling over the idea of trying one but haven’t got round to it which kind of points to either I’m terminally lazy these days (likely) or that it’s not a necessity on a mk8.

I’d be very interested to hear anyone’s experiences who has tried one though.

I think the fact that the OP is talking about a GTD changes things a bit...

Totally different power curve on the oil burner... Can't say I ever felt my Mk7/7.5 was lacking really - the grunt comes in like a brick through the window.

Can't imagine the Mk8 is any different in that respect.

Power delivery is irrelevant Fred, it’s purely dead travel in the throttle pedal that is either present or otherwise.
With a mk7 there is significant lag at low to medium pedal depression no matter what the engine and I’ve owned them all from one of the first mk7 GTI’s, through R, GTD, Ed40 and 7.5 TCR.
The mk8 seems to suffer less.
Even EV owners quite enjoy the added responses of pedalboxes.

It’s that difference between digital lag and cable and carburettor style immediacy.
I prefer the latter, many aren’t bothered by the former.
