Title: Haldex oil change

Hi guys, I’ve a gti mk 7 and VW are advising the above oil change. However when I quizzed them on when it should be done they couldn’t answer - just wondering when it should be don? Mines a mk7 gti 6 years old with 44k on the clock ? Cheers

I recall the schedule being 3 years, or 10k miles.

I assume your car is a Perfomance pack, as the regular mk7 GTi did not have the upgraded diff, hence no haldex fluid change required.

Make sure whoever does it removes the pump and cleans the screen filter (white piece in the pic)

When I did mine, which was long overdue, the filter was clean, but it's worth doing anyway for peace of mind.

Mine needs changing too, where is the best place to buy the fluid/service kit?

I have seen the kit at awesome GTI but it is very expensive, the fluid is £24 on ebay but the kit is £88 at Awesome, and only comes with two O rings and two bolts extra...

Ive serviced my own Clubsport VAQ diff and a friends Golf R Haldex and didnt replace the "O" rings on the pumps on either, and neither have leaked from the pumps.

I think the "O" rings for the pump are £20 odd from TPS.

A pump relearn is not strictly required but recommended if you clean the filter.

Thanks for that, I watched a video on youtube and it said that the filler and drain plugs are single use, but considering that they are metal and have an o ring I would have thought that just new O rings would be fine there as well?

I have a kit at home with a selection of metric sizes so I am sure to have a couple the correct size, but we use reuse O rings all the time at work and providing there is no visible damage they are always ok when reused even under high vacuum or positive pressure.

I reused the original fill and drain plugs and "O" rings too, there shouldn't be any reason not to reuse the "O" rings unless, like you say, you can see signs of damage.

Get yourself a good syringe for pumping the fluid back in too.

When I replaced my fluid, I followed instructions and ran around to buy the correct fluid and drain / refill plugs from TPS (around £16). Although I used the new ones there was nothing wrong with the old drain / refill plugs, looking at the size of them and low torque there was no chance of any stretch.
