“How may I help you?”
Change clock settings to British Summer Time
“Searching for English restaurants near you…

Cancel!
I give up.

I don’t think I’ve ever got it to work.
Shocking they actually charge extra as an option for it.
-
My car updated the time automatically, I didn't need to do anything.

Without asking she started giving me suggestions for restaurants in London, when i was in the North East of the country.

Thats curious.
It has the ability, as did the Mk7....its just that for some reason UK vehicles don't have the option enabled from the factory.
You can fix this with OBD11.... I haven't done it to mine, but this reminded me to do it!
-
Never quite understood the settings on this for the Mk7.5, surely all I should need to do is leave it linked to the GPS source, doesn't this signal change automatically a bit like the DAB one does on my radios in the house? Not sure why I need to check the 'Automatic summer time' box for it to work if linked to the GPS?
Also how does my unit know when to change from GMT as the date changes from year to year.
-
The clock time in the Vauxhall I owned 30 years ago used to change automatically on the correct date to BST in the springtime and to GMT in the autumn.
Off topic, but IMHO Vauxhalls of that era with heated door mirrors also had a much better (separate) control for switching on / off the door mirror heating than the system that VW continues to use in its cars .

I think its always the last Sunday in March isn't it?
I may have enabled the "auto update" on mine via OBDEleven months ago, I can't quite remember tbh, but it definitely auto-updated in my car anyway.
-
Forget what I wrote... that was taken from the handbook... I've just checked mine and it only has a 'Summer' button with nothing automatic about it... my time zone is set as GMT but I still have to manually check/uncheck that box twice a year for an hour to be added/taken off.
Still would be best if it was linked to the DAB signal then the time would change at 2am on the Saturday like it does at home on the radios.

Time sources are always UTC (ie GMT), then you apply the timezone offset, then you set when DST is used.
For example, in the USA, their DST cutover is a different date to us...
That being said, the MIB does have the capability to do it, they just haven't enabled it for the UK.

My time/date settings screen looks like this:

Definitely not like that on mine - just been and checked.
I'll fiddle with OBD11 later and enable it.

I got rid of my Golf 8 in Dec but still look in here every now and again.....
not once have I regretted getting rid of it and seeing a 2 page topic about adjusting the time pretty much justifies my decision!
I'm not surprised to hear that the car is still flawed but i am surprised to hear that you all still put up with it :-(

My car has been in four times now for various issues and yes it is frustrating and something we all should not have to put up with when buying a brand new car, however, this has not once made me feel like I want to reject the car as I still love it. The car has never not put a smile on my face from driving it, to living with the inside of it, to just walking back to it and loving how it looks. I know it’s all personal and four times prob isn’t as much as others have had to take it to the garage but I think I would still cope with it going back in some more times and still want the car! Maybe I’m a glutton for punishment!

I only started the thread for a laugh as voice control came up with a bit of weirdness when I noticed the clock hadn’t changed about 8 miles down the road on Sunday.
When I pulled over ten minutes later it took approx 20 seconds or less to set the clock via the settings on screen.
Definitely not grounds to divorce the car!
As a drivers car it’s fantastic.
As a tech device it is bit hit and miss at times but mine hasn’t been back to the dealers once in 15 months other than for an oil change.
Much of the “advanced” tech is just superfluous tat anyway, the driving experience is why the car was purchased and where it excels. If I wanted a mile muncher there are many better cars out there, but I bought a GTI to be used like a GTI, albeit usually stuck behind a dawdling pensioner or bloody caravan but it performs that role perfectly well too.

One of the reasons for me not moving to the 8 is reading about things. :embarrassed:
I know this thread was started as abit of light harted comedy at the UI but still.

Vauxhall used the RDS signal to provide the time. It would also adjust itself when driving abroad. I've got no idea why every car clock isn't set via radio/GPS.

RDS is a simpler but old skool way of doing it.
GPS as I said sends time in UTC... so you need to set the time zone.
You could of course detect the time zone by GPS location, but that would be a complex piece of code...
Given their obvious inability to get simple things right, I guess the bar was a little too high to do that.
