Just found out there could potentially be a shortage of neon gas which is used to etch semi conductors/processors. The reason for this is 50% of worlds supply of neon gas is produced in Ukraine... need i say anymore. But if the war escalates further this could result in a greater shortage of processors which could then mean longer lead times for cars and other electronic goods to be manufactured and dispatched for delivery to consumer...

Various media items are doing the rounds on some other forums. Not just semiconductors, but any car parts and components that are manufactured in Ukraine.

Also, around 40% of the worlds supply of palladium (precious metal used in catalytic converters) comes from Russia, and sanctions imposed against Russia are likely to disrupt palladium supplies.

I know the prospect of an already very long lead time being extended further is annoying and frustrating for anyone currently waiting for a new car, but IMHO it pales into insignificance and becomes a bit of a first world problem when you consider what the Ukrainian people are going through at the moment .

From this information I’d guess that Putin doesn’t have a fully loaded ID.3 on order.
Unless you have an old wreck about to badly fail an MOT other things are more of a short to medium term issue. But interesting nonetheless as to where things we’ve come to rely on cone from and how we have come to take for granted easy global trade to supply us with affordable goods. :afro:

Entire ID factory has stopped production
-
Official blurb…
At this stage we know the following detail:
· The production of electric vehicles in Zwickau and Dresden has already been temporarily suspended this week
· Production at the Wolfsburg plant is largely running according to plan at the moment. We do, however, expect restrictions from next week on various production lines and, as things currently stand, we will be unable to manufacture in Wolfsburg in the following week
· There will also be production interruptions at the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles plant in Hanover
· Our component factories are also affected which will have consequences as those parts are due to move to other production plants further down the supply chain

As an aside to the truly horrific things going on causing it, it’s again really interesting to read that information Lee.
Goes to show how quickly supply chains can go down when key components aren’t already stockpiled.

Its true in all JIT based manufacturing, but some industries have taken JIT to the n'th degree and really really really have screwed down on suppliers to maximise profit.
In those situations they have created really brittle supply chains.

Is your price not locked in as agreed from when you committed to the deal?

Banksy, the RFL is calculated at list price (including options) at time of delivery to customer not when ordered.

Exactly, something that has caught a few people out. I've survived the previous price increases but this one is going to tip me over. If i'm going over I might as well add more to my spec now as it doesn't matter
