Hi All
Considering fitting a tracker to my 7.5 but I don't know anything about them as such. There seems to be higher end ones and then cheaper DIY type ones. Any recommendations and/or pro's and con's?
Cheers

I use a Global Telemetrics Tracker and immobiliser, been using them for 12 years now. Current version (Trident CAT 6) also allows me to immobilise the car from anywhere with my phone.

If you just need a basic car location function with movement warnings then that is part of the VW We Connect app that is available FOC with the 7.5.
There are many on this forum who hate We Connect but for my needs it is ideal used in connection with my iPhone.
But maybe I am missing some key flaw in being able to locate my car using this facility?

WeConnect on my phone does tell me where the car is but unless I’m missing a trick, you don’t get a pro-active call if it’s moved not under its own power / battery disabled etc. and I’m pretty sure VW won’t liaise either Police. I do like the immobilisation facility, takes less than a minute to set up / re- mobilise.

Ah, ok Adam.
I do get a pro active text as soon as the alarm system detects movement or if the alarm is set off.
I realise the App is not as function rich as an independent tracker but maybe for many, such as myself, living and parking in “relatively low car crime” areas, it’s probably enough.
I might have a different view if I had a Golf R or S4 which generally seem to be preferred as theft targets.
In summary, I’m pretty content with the protection offered by the App.

Car crime in South Manchester is horrible, hence immobiliser, tracker, Disklock and drive security post. I didn’t know WeConnect sent a text if the alarm goes off? - I’ll have a play a bit later.👍

Adam…..I’m pretty sure I got a text and an e mail when the alarm was triggered. And of course the alarm is sensitive to relatively small movements of the car. So if someone tries to lift the car or jack it whilst locked the alarm will go off.
I think the other stuff re car and driving information on We Connect is pretty good as well but maybe I’m easily pleased and not very technical.

I didn't even know the We Connect thing existed. Here it says notifications are only enabled if you have the anti theft alarm, which presumably the GTI has?

Get the We Connect App, go into settings, then notifications and click on vehicle theft alarm to activate.

Whatever you do, do not get a Vodafone tracker.

They're the only manufacturer that Porsche install and is basically a requirement to keep your warranty in a new vehicle. Vodafone did a buy out of the company and rebranded to Vodafone Automotive around 2017/8. I could write about all the problems I've had with them but just trust me on this one.
-
I’m thinking of getting a Vodafone Tracker - has anyone got any thoughts?
-
I've only heard good feedback.

So I've just been looking at these and thought I'd call by insurance company, Esure, to see what if any requirement they would have for a tracker to be fitted (what Thatcham level for example) and what, if any, policy saving there would be. Esure tell me that there would not be any saving, which isn't the best, but more importantly as it's a change to the policy they would charge me £26 for the privilege of amending the policy - crazy! :undecided:

Whenever I renew I get asked the question, so it must carry some weighting?
In fairness, I didn’t buy for any Insurance savings, that’s the icing on the cake, I bought it for additional peace of mind👍
