Title: Reverse camera retro fit.
Post by: Boothy1979 on 04 January 2022, 09:31
Morning all,

I have found a brand new genuine reverse camera for my MK8 and wondered what peoples thoughts are on having this retro fit? How much work is involved? Is it just a case of replacing this for the old one and the wiring is already in place? Don’t want any trim removing really as that brings its own issues with rattles etc. I’m hoping it’s a quick replace the old one and code the infotainment.

Grateful for any advice.

Cheers

looking at this picture of the kit, I'd say you've got to run a cable:

Drat! I guess I was clinching at straws hoping it was a plug and play! Can’t say I’m overly happy having trim removed as it’s never the same once put back. Wonder if anyone on here has had it done? Thanks for the reply anyway.

I’ve not had it done but been to see a guy who has a good reputation about having it done, he told me around 3hrs to do it. I was a little concerned about warranty but he said it would affect  Hope that helps

Thanks for that. 3 hours doesn’t seem long so can’t be a massive job. Does that include them coding it in for you too? Also does it worry you about them removing trim to run the cables? I hear that once the trim has been removed it can develop rattles and at the moment I don’t have any!

So going ti have it done then and where you getting the kit from?

Yes boothy that includes coding as for removing panels yeah a bit  but to be honest I’ve got a noise anyway coming from front passenger side which drives me nuts , this guy does everything adding maps into main dials to putting remote boot release I think it’s £520 for camera

I don’t think that sounds too bad to be fair. I have a local VW specialist so might give them a call and see what they say. Thanks mate. If you get it done, drop me a message when you have to tell me how it went.
