Title: MK7.5 GTI turbo gone
Post by: redmk7.5 on 02 November 2021, 21:34
Been having issues with my standard Mk7.5 GTi 38k miles - engine management light coming on last week with EPC  light and intermittent ACC failure. Car has been in limp mode with it. VW are quoting me 2700 for a replacement turbo - does this seem about right?

I assume the car is out of warranty ? Have they not offered any goodwill? What physical symptoms were you experiencing with the car other than the lights on the dash ? Ie smoke from the exhaust, whining noise from the engine, car seems sluggish etc

Yeah i think out of warranty as registered sept 2017. Car is getting to about 2000 revs then EPC light comes on and not getting any power out of it.

If you suspect turbo I'd go to a VW specialist and get an inspection from them, then go down the route of rebuilding the turbo.

Could even add some nice Littco bits to it if you were that way inclined or the IS38 route.

Are the intercooler and turbo hoses ok? - on a previous car I had exactly the same symptoms, took a while to diagnose but a smoke pressure test confirmed the leak - hell of a lot cheaper than a new turbo.
