Post by: Wugga on 25 October 2021, 10:36
Hi all just posted in the new section that I have recently bought my first gti - any advice/help will be much appreciated. So I bought a mk6 - -2009 gti in silver

I’ve noticed that a pipe maybe broken or poss the previous owner had changed it ? As per circled picture what is the name of the pipe (so I can replace it) also I’m arranging for the engine and bay to be cleaned is this good practice ? As not done anything like this before ! Thanks for reading and any advice greatly received

Welcome.
. Thats the air intake ducting From the grill. Theres probably a part number on it.

. Kph to mph. Its uk law to have both displayed on a speedo incase to visit europe. Unlike other cars the golf only has mph in the dial so kph is displayed.
it can be changed but setting have to be changed bu computer using vcds or similar.

Maybe if someone has fitted a cold air intake to theirs.
You maybe better looking on ebay by searching the part number out.
You also seem to be missing the battery cover and engine cover for some reason.

Also I think something is missing from the screen wash pipe as it seems very loose ? What should it be clipped too ?

There should be a curved metal bracket with two bolts attaching it to the body and a single bolt holding the washer bottle to the bracket.

Hi Wugga

Just popped the bonnet on my 2009 Mk6 GTI and the part number stamped on the bracket that joe6 advised you about is:

1K0 199 588

Hope that helps? I'd post the photo but unfortunately the postimages.org website is down at the moment.

Cheers

Bluto

----Edit-----

Now the Internet is working again...

Had this once - did a scan for the fault which said rear numberplate light was faulty. No fault, deleted the error code but not had a repeat message since.

You can change this using a Carista OBD adapter or Carly OBD adapter. Bought my Carista one off amazon for about £30
