Hi Folks,
Well I have finally got everything done for the MOT after a week and a half and it's going back in to be retested this afternoon. Man that windscreen was a pain in the bum but me and my mate got it in in the end last night after 2 1/2 hours messing about with sting and vasaline!
The last thing on my list of jobs is the heater matrix as quite frankly it's got too damn cold to have no heating. I've read that a MKIII matrix can be used as it's better than the MKII item. Is this a stariaght fit or does it require some bodgery to get it to work? Also where is the cheapest and best place to get a replacement?
Cheers,
Nick

I got mine off ebay, the MK3 part is what you want as it allows you to do away with the bypass valves.
You got that screen off Tucker didn't you, its a green tint one if you didn't notice :) If you come down this way again I could give you a hand with the matrix, I did one in my old Driver it isn't one of the most fun jobs in the world ;)

mk3 is a straight swap, only problem i had changing the matrix was the bolts in the engine wall where shot to bits and so rusted spanner just smoothed them in one go. but after wrestling for like 2/3 hours with grips and tring to cut them off lol, it took about 6 hours to get it out an 1 and half to get it in and working :D

Well what you do in your time is totally up to you i guess  LoL
The matrix is fairly straight forward, just don't forget there are 2 clips on each side of the square heater tube thing - that's about the only thing missing from the guide of cgti!

i used the haynes and it was pretty good although i didnt understand the wording at time but it did make sense after id done it lol.

I found takeing the dashboard out takes very little time and makes the job a whole heap easier no lyeing on the floor looking up to find clips etc
ours took me a little over an hour done and dusted

Cheers guys, I'll get searching for a good deal on a MKIII item and then be back on here at the weekend cursing cause I have the car in bits and I can't do it!

Biggest prob I had was the 2 big bolts in the engine bay, both siezed to I had to rip the damn thing off the studs in the end! Luckily it pushed back on OK and all the other clips/scres/vents etc hold it in securly anyway.

when i was at veedub i believe there was a warranty still going on the matrix...some dude got burnt in the states so if they leak they replaced em for free...was a year ago since i left tho!

Unfortunately this has been stopped now, but if you make enough fuss about it you might get away with it ;)
