Afternoon everyone.
So looking at poss getting the 19s Acegadget has for sale for my standard GTi. The only concern I have is that from factory, if you spec’d the 19s, it changed the suspension also. Has anyone upgraded to 19s on a standard MK GTi and if so what are your thoughts on it?
Thanks in advance.

Do Clubsports count?
Problems encountered - none
Ride quality affected - a bit but not massively
Looks - 100% better

I believe they have different suspension as standard compared to that of mine. How did you find the ride switching and do you have DCC?

@Boothy1979; Didn’t @Acegadget also go from the standard 18” Richmonds to those rather nice 19’s that he’s selling? If so it’d also be worth asking him (if you’ve not already done so) about differences in ride quality as he’ll be able to give you a view based on the actual 19” wheels (and tyres?) you’re considering buying.

Slightly different suspension, yes. Probably a bit firmer as standard.
Mine is non DCC.
I find the ride quality fine on anything but properly mashed up road surfaces. The latter is going to be uncomfortable no matter what wheels you’re rolling on.

Already asked him and he is the same as Exonian in that, he didn’t really notice a massive difference. Just because mine is a standard GTi though, I thought I would ask to see if anyone as experienced it.
Thanks for your answers though guys. Agreed to swap/buy them so I’m mega excited to get them swapped over.

They’ll look great on your White GTI; IMHO anthracite / gunmetal alloys on a white car is a really good combination . Be sure to post up a picture when you’ve got them on your car.

Mines black by the way but I think they will look good with the grey against the black. Will put some pics up when I get them on. Cheers mate.

Oops! Sorry :embarrassed:; a case of mistaken identity on my part. It’s Brocky that’s got the white GTI.
Agree, they will look equally good on a black GTI. IMHO anthracite / Gunmetal coloured alloys go well with most paint colours.

I went from 17x7.5 +51 to 19x8.5 +47, here in Greece base gti 245 comes with 17" as standard
In low speed driving only difference i noticed is louder bangs over potholes speedbumps etc,
but above 65-70mph i am moving side to side on seat over bad road with uneven surface, the difference is very noticeable
The steering is more nervous when speeding in bad roads with cracked asphalt and mpg also dropped but that might be insignificant!

Thanks for the info. I would think going from a 17 to 19 inch wheel, you are going to notice a bigger difference than from a 18 to 19. You moving about in you seat like that doesn’t sound good! There is likely to be a change in MPG but like you said, too insignificant to matter.

I think they will be that good you should pay more money

We have already done that dance! Are you sure you are not from Yorkshire like me?
