Title: The £60k Used Golf R
Post by: SRGTD on 30 September 2021, 13:55
Just seen this on Autotrader. Used mk8 Golf R with an asking price just £1 shy of £60k . As it advertised as a ‘71 plate with 3k miles, it’s probably the dealer’s demonstrator.

I’m not up to speed on the standard spec and options on the mk8 R, but as this one has cloth seats rather than leather and it’s not advertised as having HK sound system upgrade or head-up display (there are probably other options it doesn’t have), it’s not fully loaded with all options to help justify the asking price.

If anyone pays the asking price or close to the asking price, they’re in for some seriously heavy depreciation when the used car price bubble bursts

I don't think it would be appropriate for me to post what I think of that....

I do but I won't....

Mind you the stupid prices being asked for some fairly ordinary classic cars these days beggars belief!

It is totally mad price and as you say no even fully loaded. With the spec listed for it, the list price is around (£
DCC £795
Pan Roof £1000
Performance Pack £2050
Winter Pack £285
Rear Camera £300
Discover Media Pro £1200 I think , not sure

With the spec listed for it, the list price is around £45,600 - £46K (in case Discover Pro is a little more)

So that is quite a jump to get into a car with 3000miles. Probably been looking at Autotrader and thought they would try it on in case someone offered £55k say

I'd like a new car, but would never dream of paying over list.

I was actually poised (all day) on the computer to bid on these - https://www.christies.com/lot/lot-6336469?ldp_breadcrumb=back&intObjectID=6336469&from=salessummary&lid=1 only to see them in a matter of seconds race past my budget into the statosphere! But still a massive bargain (even at £22k for 6 tiles) compared with that R.... And plenty of change left over for a vase or 2

If you're willing to settle I can change my forum name to Will the Morgan and make you two. (Note - The artist recommends viewing in an extremely dark room)

Are antiques on the way up again?

The right antiques are always on the up! I have excellent taste if you want any tips, unfortunately everyone else seems to get the same ideas at the same time  Today I was (in theory) bidding against people in Hong Kong, Houston, New York and the UK. If you want to send me some samples I'll consider them

Just like everything then, especially lego  I don't have the money to enter the antique game going by the final price on your artwork earlier, oak furniture land will stay for a while longer  I'd always be too weary of fakes in antiques. But I do have a few rugs and bit of furniture that will be going up for sale soon.

Apart from a  few software hitches, dynamically it's one of the best I've ever had

i think ive spoilt myself over the last 10 years with an array of BMW's - the Golf definitely feels like a step backwards :-(
Hey ho, live and learn and that ;-)
Ive also got an M3 for sh!ts and giggles so that helps

A bit extreme especially given a Vauxhall Corsa SRI is over £20k! Agree its not £60k's worth but not sub £20k

For under £60k I could purchase my dream sleeper of a E63S estate on a 2017 plate.

As much as I love my Golf, there is no way I will pay over £25k for one. New or second hand.

For £5k more I know of a 2019, 3.5k miles, full spec car with buckets....it's a friends car which is too big & fast for me to buy,,,spinning all 4 wheels accelerating in 3rd gear on a dry road is a little unnerving!
