Title: Any advice pplease
Post by: Relishy57 on 09 August 2021, 19:46
3 month old GTI, 1400 miles, today went in for a creaking rattling on near side front.
Garage has replaced a top mount and bearing.
Not picked car up yet as out of town until after garage closed.
Had one other visit for software upgrade to 1668;after a few issues.
Had a Mk 7 GTI pp for 5.5 years with very few problems.
I love the new car to drive but I am losing confidence in its reliability etc.
I do not have a PCP/ hire purchase etc.
Have others had this problem?
Any advice welcome please.

Seen a few top mounts replaced, whether it's actually a fault is questionable.

The software problems are well known, the list of faults is vast and the occurrences of them manifesting themselves is seemingly totally random.

Supposedly at some point in q4 this year a new release will fix them all

If you believe that then I've got a bridge from London I'd like to sell you...

The software update did fix the issues I had for the  most part.  I can live with these and hopefully a fix will happen. But problems with suspension don’t seem right in a new car or am I being naive? These are not cars for just tootling along in.

Fairly sure a similar number of mk7s had similar problems from new to be honest. Not much consolation to you I'll agree though. Fairly sure it's a one time fix though.

When I searched I found loads of people talking about MK7/7.5 and none on MK8 so I think problem is widespread. I think if mine go again I will replace with VW racing ones.
My software has been fine since update till yesterday when warning devices stopped again

Just picked car up. All quiet and driving like it did now the squeaking etc has gone.
The parts hadn’t “failed” but were replaced due to the squeaking. Fingers crossed that I don’t have any more problems.
Service department very obliging, full marks to them.

I lost faith with mine months ago, I cant wait to replace it!
Every time there's an issue, the dealer doesn't know how to fix it and says they will speak to VW and come back to me with what was said - the last I heard from them was a couple of months ago so VW must be very slow at responding!

I think they've gone into full denial mode now.

They refuse to talk to me about the problems and the dealer doesn't have a clue how to fix them, just wastes time with my car there.

Basically VW need to sort their software out but when is the question....

I think I've got to the point where I won't buy another VW - not  because of teething issues but because of their lack of transparency and customer care.

I’m reading these issues that you are all having with the mark 8 I have a 7,5 pp and would certainly put me off even thinking of changing at this time hope you all get sorted

Comments like this make me wonder if I’m doing the right thing changing. Diehard vw customers considering whether to buy another in the future. Worrying.

This was destined to be my last GTI . I loved the drive experience right from the test drive but have become rather disillusioned by the faults.
Apparently there is an update (recall) for infotainment issues. I have rung the service department about it as it was not mentioned when my car was in on Monday. No reply yet from them. Just my luck if it wasn’t known about then and needs another visit.

Have been holding off for the past year on whether to trade up to a Mk8. Think I'll wait a bit longer :undecided:

New Golf GTI Clubsport:

Mechanically - brilliant
Technologically - brilliant
Software control - Suspect!

I’m thinking the same. I’d love a mk8 CS but I can wait a year until vw have hopefully sorted out the issues..
Bought a mk6 when the model was first out. Was lucky and the only significant issue was the intake manifold but others had lots of issues. Scirocco twin charger luckyagain but many issues for others. Would not entertain another new vw model out. Let other customers have the agro for vw lack of thorough engineering testing and customer care follow up. Aspects of the mk8 may be fantastic but if the complete package is not fit for purpose is it worth buying yet? Probably not - head over heart argument.

I feel the same about my GTI... it really is a blast to drive and is definitely an improvement over the Mk7.5.... but the bloody annoying software problems! Not a day goes by without something bloody pinging at me about some sort of fault.

I’m having many little annoying problems with my clubsport but the worst to me is the rattle/ noise from near side front. My car goes back next Wednesday for the second time in 3 weeks. I’m seriously thinking of rejecting the car unless they sort all problems out which include

Wireless charging and connecting
Keyless entry
Rattle/ noise
Front assist
Another software update

Also there has been three occasions I’ve gone out to car in morning to find it unlocked ( I’m pretty sure it was locked the night before)

There is a known issue with some cars and wireless charging issues, as shown below, as well as a service campaign 91BU for issues with the SOS/online connection issues

What constantly amazes me is that people can find and post TPI's that my dealer can't seem to find...

My experience of the Mk8 GTI has been very different to yours, Fred.

Since I swapped (rejected) my 2020 (Week 40) Golf GTI for a replacement 2021 (Week 10) and had its software updated from version 1788 to 1803, it's all been plain sailing. I took delivery of the new car on 2 May and have now covered 4,000, almost, fault free miles, and it's been a real pleasure to drive.

I had loads of glitches with my 2020 car but my dealer's response was first class every time, and they offered me a great deal on the swap, when I eventually said I had had enough. The only problem that I have experienced with my current one is that sometimes Alexa won't talk to me for a few minutes..... but I can live with that!

Yeah.... I suspect most of the problems are to do with earlier components.

I guess its all not quite right because I hear there is an even newer 5F (MIB unit) for MY22 vehicles...(ie being built later this month)

I had a few software  issues at first with 1666. since getting 1668, it seems to be fine, Done 1700 miles with no issues, seems to load up quickly. With 1666, it often said this is not available at the moment please wait, but dont get that now. It drives much nicer than my 7.5, glad i got the Mk8. So if you have one on order dont think you should be too worried at all

What constantly amazes me is that people can find and post TPI's that my dealer can't be arsed to find...

Fixed that for you...

Erwin is a great thing to register for - 7 Euro for one hour access and I can download a full PDF factory repair manual for my car, and check if there are service campaigns/TPIs, etc

My wife's Tiguan built in Nov 2020 is due a similar OCU update and there is now a software fix (allegedly!) for non Golf 8 MIB3 head units for predictive cruise control/mph/kmh errors

Going to try and wait a month or so and get it all done at once when her Tiguan needs first service.
