Hello Everyone
I was wondering if anyone has replaced the battery on their Clubsport S and what they replaced it with?
Despite being on a CTEK trickle charger, mine has given up after 5 years. It's not a garage queen but have multiple cars and with the pandemic, having it on intermittent use and not permanently on the trickle has resulted in the battery failing.
Local dealer quoted OE which I think is Banner on 1 year warranty and if fitted by them becomes 2. But I'm effectively paying £90 for a year's warranty by having someone in their workshop take 15 mins to do something I can easily do myself.
Having mentioned price, it's not the reason for the post so am not interested in a cheap battery, just a high quality battery that is better than what they're offering (at more than the price for what I know are better batteries).
Be grateful for suggestions/recommendations and a supplier (favour given to any who support the forum with sponsorship).
Thanks

I had to replace mine recently, I used battery megastore link below. It was the cheapest by far for good branded batteries and real quick delivery.
I fitted mine myself and I still need to get it coded, but to be honest the car is running totally fine so I'm sure not how necessary it is (i changed like for like - although different brand battery).

The CS-S I have seen, mostly seem to have Exide Efb batteries fitted.
If you want originality then that is an easy replacement.
On my CS, I replaced the battery with a Yuasa AGM, easily coded in with Obdeleven.
I would not hesitate to upgrade to an AGM battery from a quality manufacturer.

Perfect. I got a 5% discount on top of an already good price so appreciate the recommendation. Thanks.

You're right, I went to the garage and checked the battery. An Exide EFB. £50 online but dealer quoted me £212. I assume they conduct sacred rites to justify the cost. Apparently a 'master technician' will work on the car because it's a 'special car'. I don't disagree but on the basis of shared MKVII platform components, pull the other. So I get to enjoy the maximum labour rate as a penalty of ownership if I choose to.

Always best to code it if you can. There's mixed answers online but one suggested the car treats it like an older battery and not new one. So it give it different charge cycles and can make the battery degrade faster. But I'm no expert and it's just what I read online

Car is going in for a service next month so I will get them to do it, can't justify buying the OBD11 just yet. So figured it might be cheaper to let them do it.
Thanks

You probably figure wrong. At stealer prices, they will probably charge you an hours labour for that job which would buy you a pro version of OBD11.

can you not find someone local to you with vcds or OBD11?
-
I use a vw specialist whos prices are usually decent, but I'll double check with them first though.
Failing that - how best do I search for someone local with the kit who can help me out?
-
Facebook has both vcds and OBD11 groups on which you can join.

Whereabouts are you?
I've left the UK but still got a few contacts to vcds users

I'd be interested to know which battery you decided to fit?
I noticed on Tayna batteries/ europarts/ RAC and other sources that they advise a EXIDE EK700 AGM 096 BATTERY TYPE 70AH with stop/start function..
This doesn't match the battery in my car, which it appears is no longer available.
many thanks
