Title: Good quality screenwash advice
Post by: martin998877 on 21 May 2021, 08:09
Hi everyone

It's important to have good screenwash with the fan type jets, but also to remove the general traffic film smears that cheaper washes don't remove.

In the past I used clearalex poweder sachets as an additive traffic film busters, but these are no longer obtainable. I tried Xtreme Clear View additive which seems good, but is expensive.

I wondered what people recommend? Obviously there is standard VW screenwash, both ready for use and concentrated (supposedly with 1:100 dilution), which I guess is a good possibility, and other makes I've seen mentioned are Wurth, Quantum and Einzett.

Recommendations awaited for a good all round strong screenwash that doesn't also need an additive!

Martin

I've used American Prestone 'Max Visibility Screen Wash' for a few years now, I buy 5 litre containers when it's on offer at Tescos, which it seems to be quite regularly.

It's available in both summer and winter formulas, both types are coloured yellow and has a subtle lemony smell which I find better than some others. I find both types work well all year round, even when diluted to 50/50 with water - although the pack unsurprisingly states no need to dilute.

That is £9.40 though on Ebay, but from my local VW garage the same thing is £7.12.

@JB GTI probably just provided that link so you could see which screen wash product they were recommending, rather than suggesting you buy from that specific eBay seller. If you can find it cheaper elsewhere then it makes the decision on where to buy easy - especially if there’s a seller local to you….

You could try VW Motorparts. Their website is currently down so I don’t know what their price is (they sometimes have it on special offer) but worth checking before you buy . May not be cheaper than your local VW dealer if they charge for delivery though.

Looks like a bargain then on Ebay if I can save myself a trip into the city for a couple of quid.......

Yeah, quite often a slightly higher advertised price on line works out cheaper, once you’ve taken into account the cost of traveling to your ‘local’ dealer to buy the equivalent item at the lower price.

Another vote for Prestone, which after trying many is very much the go to now, would not use another due to how efficient is at getting into the grease and clearing.

I use the Halfrauds Berry screen was and have done for years with no issues. Cheap as chips with the trade card as well.
