He’s back, and in a GTI

(One for the tyre geeks)
Not got time to watch it myself right now but I expect we can all guess the result(?)

Great review, that one. Looks like Bridgestone pulled their usual trick - too hard and needs heat to work. Unsuitable for cold wet conditions. Sigh......oh well.
Goodyear F1 AS5 for me when my PS4 are shot.
-
Slightly obscure comment: Has he got Rylan's teeth?
-
That is a cracking video actually.... I love his dedication to testing! Man after my own heart!
What is interesting is that there isn't actually a "right" choice....which is where I've been at with tyres for a long old time. He says, they are all compromise. Spot on!

The Bridgestone was good in the wet, it just needed a bit of warming up. PS4S seems to have the same wooly feel as the PS4 which is disappointing. Goodyear looks to be the best of the bunch.

Yes, agree, I think the Goodyear is probably the pick for my preferences.
Despite otherwise sounding good, I'm leary of the new B'stone's need for heat to perform. Needing heat on the racetrack to me means they would lack grip in cold wet road conditions. Pity, as they otherwise sound good.

some reviewers on the Tyrereviews site have said the Bridgestones are good in the wet and they didn't notice any heat issues.

That’s a very good point!
To be honest I didn’t notice as I was too distracted by his guns.
I worry about myself sometimes.
What won the test anyway? I tried watching it twice but fell asleep both times.

The latest from tyre reviews.
Handy for those of us approaching our first replacements, not so handy for those still awaiting a build date as the Pilot Sport 6 will be out before your cars are delivered

I'm coming up on needing new fronts... which means I will swap them with the rears.
Probably put PS4S's on... but might consider Eagle F1's instead. Will have to see what the tyre shop has when i get there!
TBH the BS S005's haven't been terrible. Never felt like they are lacking.... the mk8 is such a non-understeering grip magnet. All of the traction issues I had with my Mk7/Mk7.5 on the stock BS's are definitely gone. Not sure if thats the tyres or the car. Either way I think I'm not looking to put the current S005's in the dumpster ASAP!

I put 4 Eagle F1's on mine just before Christmas to get it through its MOT.
Wasn't a particularly harsh winter but they coped fine. No traction or grip issues at all. Quieter than the Bridgestones and cheaper than the Michelins.

How are the Bridgestones that the GTI comes with? I have heard alot of negativity so tempted to change them the moment it arrives and sell them on.
But, are they really that bad or just not quite as good as PS4 and F1s?
-
I've had the Bridgestones on mine since it was delivered. I haven't found anything to complain about and I'm quite happy with them after 2 summers and 1 winter.
I might consider a switch when it comes to replacing them but tbh it'll depend on prices at the time.

Since then a puncture lead to me replacing the front with PS4S's.
Maybe a little better at the extreme edge of chucking it around, but to be fair the S005's weren't terrible.

Ok, not a mk8 but close enough
