Title: Breaking k - plate MK2 gti
Post by: alan293 on 17 October 2005, 11:36
I am breaking my k plate mk2 4 door gti in Alpine White the overall condition of the vehicle is very good. The starter motor is bust, which led to the cam belt snapping and killing the engine, all parts available except:

Heater matrix system
Complete interior
Boot lid
Grill
Front wings

Also got 4 BBS RA's 15" in very good condition (1 or 2 scrapes) the lacquer is completely tarnished so in need of a quick sand down, pawder coat and a bit of elbow grease to make these rare wheels shine. 1 centre cap missing.

What are you after let me know? Make a sensible offer I doubt I'll refuse.
Alan

Parts are for collection only in Basildon or I could bring to Ace Cafe or South Mimms.

Most parts are available, however I am simple person whose technical expertise on cars stretches as far putting oil, water & petrol in it!

Power steering thingy will be available (however I haven't a clue where to find it???) Where do you live?

8v Gear box is good and done approx 120k but again (I know where it is but wouldn't know where to start to take it off!!! - you are more than welcome to come and remove it yourself though?)

J164 you can have the car/shell minus wheels, boot lid, front grill & interior for £350 ONO you will have to collect it and will need a trailer or flat bed truck as the engine is f00ked!

Power steering res. is just beside the battery. A white/cream rectangular container usuall with a red cap with two tube coming out the bottom, one either side. I'm in Belfast. Might need to drain the fluid!

DON'T scrap your k plate mate. if it helps i have a 8v gti engine in my garage that i got from rob in skelton but i'm sure he wont mind me donating it to save a k plate. the cylinder head is split but you can use your own. all cam followers. valves and block are ok. i was going to strip it and use it for parts but will give it to you for free if it will save your k plate from decapitation. im in stoke on trent, staffs. email me if interested. jason.lightfoot2@btinternet.com
regards jase

Right guys, it would appear that I have stumbled across something quite rare. This car has been parked up the road from my mums for 6 months with for sale in it. To be honest I picked it up because I got it for an absolute bargain. I was take the bits me and my mates needed for our Mk2's and then make a quick buck back on it by stripping the parts. Which until now was going quite well (i.e loads of interest in the parts)

However i now find myself in  amoral dilema, I like you guys absolutely love cars and i am now stuck with decision of fix it or scrap it. As I mentioned before am about as technical as a grapefruit, so would seriously struggle to any work myself. The car itself is quite tatty, but not that bad. It is complete and in original condition, and covered approx 120k (mainly motorway). I get either engine collected for £30 (thanks for the very generous offers guys).

I am moving the car up to my mechanics yard where I was going to break it tonight. I'm gonna have chat with him now about the costs and labour envolved in fitting a new engine, if its relitively straight forward and not to expensive then a new engine will be going in, therefore bringing her back to road worthy condition.

I am unable to keep this car even with a working engine in. How much is running k-plate gonna be worth? And how much will it be worth if I get the body work sorted out?

P.S if I take a donanted engine I'll make a generous donation to charity of your choice for the engine for very decent gesture or you can have first refusal on the car.

Any ideas what the costs would be to have this sort of work done???

Thanks
Alan

forgot to ask you rob, do you want the 8v gearbox for the vr6? have you pick up the vr6 engine yet and how far you got in fitting it?
Title: Re: Breaking k - plate MK2 gti

Right..... I've come to my decision and she isn't going to be broken up. I apologise to all those that have shown and interest in having some of parts, but it  looks I would partaking in a cardinal sin by breaking up this apparantly very rare model, ( I want to go to VW heaven, not hell when I go...)

Jas555, I take your 8v is a digifant engine? Any idea what sort of mileage it has covered?

I have decided to do a minor restoration project on the vehicle, and then make a decison on its future once complete. When the car got moved last night, it was apparant the overall condition is in fact very good. From what I could see in the evening light, it has 4-5 areas of surface rust, all of which will come out very easily and hopefully for around £100 with paint.

Watch this space, I'm looking forward to seeing the end result.

Anyone got any advice and a starter motor?
