I took delivery of a new GTD this week. First proper run today from Edinburgh to Newcastle and back.
The ACC was driving me mad and I’d like to know if it’s a setting or a rookie error on my part.
On the dual carriageway, whilst in the outside lane, it would repeatedly slow down as I approached cars on the inside lane. A dab of the throttle would over ride this, but it would happen quite often. Almost as if it expected me to be overtaking in the other lane.
Other times it would behave as I expected and overtake without issue.
I indicated to pass cars, but didn’t make a difference. Sometimes I’d be passing 10-15 cars and it would allow a few, then after say a dozen or so, it would slow me.
One final annoyance (and perhaps linked) it would randomly show the speed limit as 110 (dual carriageway) or 90 (single carriageway) which made me think it was set to km and thus linked to driving on the right instead?
Anyway, like I say - in the space of the 3hr journey it must’ve switched around a dozen times at least.
Any thoughts??

Yes, it's thinking its driving on the other side of the road and in kmh.
It could be the settings but I've heard of that being software gremlin caused too.
Check the settings first.
-
Thanks Fred, I’ll check the settings but I suspect software gremlins.
Within a one mile stretch of the A1 it switched between 110 and 70 (on the speed limit sign) a number of times.
The random intermittent nature makes me think it’s a gremlin.
-
The other thing to check is where the GPS thinks the car is. Look on the nav map... Think that's related too.
-
I suspected that, but the Nav knew where I was at all times
-
You know what, I've seen this too.
Or at least I've seen the kmh switch.
I saw 80 indicated on the car and the limit was 50mph. I've just realised that would be 80kmh.
I think I've only noticed it once so far but I've not even got to 1000 miles yet.
-
I phoned vw customer services whilst driving down.
Asked for a tech minded person to see if there was anything obvious in the plethora of settings that i'd missed.
Shouldn't have bothered. The only advice offered was to take it to a dealer

Quick update on this.
Car was booked into the dealers today and they resolved the issue.
Seems a software update was required.
Here’s the system info:

Did they say which software... There are something like twenty plus controllers, all with software and bugs...

No, they didn’t mention the specifics.
There was however a technical bulletin on his screen from HQ regarding this very fault.
So it was reassuring to know I wasn’t alone.
-
I'd definitely seen people talk of having the same problem before you mentioned it...
-
Hopefully this thread helps others.
It was also linked to the speed limit symbols randomly changing from mph to kph.
This update also fixed that little niggle.
-
I had the same kph fault, car software was updated to version 1803. Still have the kph issue but the satnav is smother.

Did yours do the driving on the wrong side of the road thing?
BTW from talking to friends at the weekend, traffic sign recognition seems to be a problem all over the place.... BMW, Jaguar, Polestar, Toyota.
I was talking to my friends at a meet up about my Mk8 woes and all of them have all sorts of similar issues with their new cars as well.... sometimes we can be a little tunnel visioned about this stuff.
Possibly suggests some of the components that do this are off the shelf components (well, actually, I know they are) and the fault is with Bosche or whoever...

Seems the “update” ain’t no good.
Back to how it was before.
Showing kph and randomly changing between “driving on right” and “driving on left”
In other news, the alarm went off (again) this am.
This time it wouldn’t switch off.
Numerous pressing of the (still flashing) fob wouldn’t stop it.
Ended up having to do the school run with the alarm blasting!!
