Probably being saved for the Ed45 (or whatever they call it)?

Looks good...subtle

(whatever they call it)?

"Sticker and exhaust pack"

But yes unique styling is somewhat missing.... maybe its not about a badge though ;-)

If you consider the clubby as the Mk8 "GTI Performance" and look at the differences between the old Mk7 GTI vs GTI Performance.... how many visual things were there?

Red calipers with GTI stickers on them and a red GTI badge.

Later on they stuck red badges on everything too!

Now the clubby has... different tailpipes, different nose design and different spoiler and a black stripe down the side.

It doesn't have CLUBSPORT written on it though, any more than the GTI Performance had a big boot sticker saying

P-E-R-F-O-R-M-A-N-C-E

The difference is there for the Golf fans to know, it doesn't need to shout about it, its not a BMW

Fair point, but I saw the GTi performance as an option pack, not a different model

It was a pack on the Mk7 and a model on the Mk7.5...

Ahh yes, I forgot about that! I Skipped the 7.5.

What I meant was, isn't there another version of the current Clubsport coming out, ie Ed45 (or similar name)? If so, they may have more stickers on it (amongst other things of course).

Maybe some nasty red wheels too.

Extra money on top for cup2 tyres.

I quite like those stickers.
More than happy with my car minus any Clubsport logos but the lettering is well executed in that photo and it was only a matter of time before someone got on the case to market something like that.
Might be a popular add on, especially for enthusiasts that do the show scene or like to post up hundreds of photos of their car.

I’ve seen a few posts saying that people wouldn’t buy a Clubsport because it didn’t look special or unique which is odd considering it’s just a standard production model that has a distinctive enough look in its own right. Typically VW subtle. Shame it doesn’t have unique wheels, but that may change during the model life and I quite like adding my own stamp to a car in the form of different wheels anyway.

Unique? I reckon out of the gti, the clubby and the R they will sell more clubby than the other two combined.

Unique? I reckon out of the gti, the clubby and the R they will sell more clubby than the other two combined.

Depends on the lease deals really. The R is the darling of the leasers and those that have £50k tucked away down the sofa and tend to buy the top of the range everything (after carefully considering other options for a split-nanosecond before deciding to buy the one with the most features ‘cos it’s bound to be the best innit).

The regular GTI still has the best blend for higher mileage use (or if you have lots of fog!) so ought to appeal to company car drivers that no longer want a Diesel (sound familiar?)

At least the Clubsport (TCR replacement) in this generation doesn’t look massively overpriced compared to the R so should sell in reasonable numbers. This being the GTI forum we’re biased, other forums and social media groups might paint a different picture.

Time will tell how market conditions and VW’s political direction go.

If you want unique I suppose you have to have red wheels!
Would have been nice to have a ‘unique’ Clubsport alloy wheel design though.

Think those CS decals look spot on. Have you got a photo of the side of the car just to see them a little better? Oh, and I’m taking the credit for this mod. My photo inspired a generation.

Can’t say it bothers me that there is no clubsport reference on my car.  Not a fan of decals in general and will probably remove mine at some point

Same as me. If you're a VW enthusiast or even just interested in cars, i'm pretty sure you'll see the difference between the Clubsport over a standard golf/gti

I'd remove the decals if it was an option

I’ll take some when I’m next out, only applied them today. 👍🏻

Did you make them yourself M6TT?
As I said previously they do look well executed and indeed very OEM and should prove quite a popular mod.
They certainly work well with the paint colour.

Interesting to see the differing views on the side decals in general, always the beauty of forums.

I’m another who would love to see more pics of the car with them on.

Michele, you were too slow copyrighting your idea!

No, I ordered them from a vinyl graphics supplier online. They have a huge catalogue of graphics to choose from, and loads of colours. The dark grey is pretty close to the bodywork. They were only a tenner, so nothing to lose by trying them out.

Some side on pics. As you can see, very subtle. Could go white if you wanted them to stand out a little more

Well I really like that. A subtle but worthwhile mod imo. I'd be tempted to extend the decal in some form to the rear doors too like the Ed40. Thanks for the photos!

As an aside, would you have to inform your insurance with this mod? What a mood killer I am!

Cheers, yes pleased with it. I'm gonna say no - it's not like you're trying to pass it off as anything other than what it is

regarding informing insurance of any mod done to the car question. here in Germany we do not need to inform the insurance of any modification to the car and insurance price remain the same irrespective of your modification as long as it is approval by TÜV Certification to be used on the car.
it is the responsibility of the modification supplier to get TÜV Certification approval for a performance product they are selling. the user only need to have the document supply by the seller indication the part is got TÜV Certification to be used on the car.

for example if i decided to buy a 19" rim on my original 18" GTi i need to check that it is approved to be used on my car and carried the documents with me. all item like lowering springs, racechip e.t.c  have to get the TÜV Certification to be used on the car and without the TÜV Certification from the supplier most workshop will not install the parts on your car. even window tint need to have the TÜV Certification approval. any modification that is not done from the factory need to have TÜV Certification from the manufacturer

if say i like a modification that is not certified for use on my car  e.g a rim from USA i can still buy then take it to the TÜV Certification test center to get approval that it is safe for use on the car.

TÜV means Technical Inspection Association

wow! that sounds organised.... Germans organised.... there is a surprise!!! haha

Its a total nightmare here - literally anything could be considered a mod, or might be if you have a claim and they try not to pay out.

Some insurers here consider "mods" as factory fitted items even! Optional 19's? Mod, more money please.

Sounds great from a safety perspective, but how do they address the increased risk of your car being vandalised or nicked?  :undecided:

That looks really good M6TT, I’m impressed. Simple but effective, didn’t realise it was a transfer over the original sticker in post #1 owing to how well the colours match. I assumed it was a replacement sticker with the graphic logo cut out.
Being as it’s so cheap I might try a white one myself :afro:

The sides look nice and clean with the GTI blades removed btw.

Thanks, yes it was a pretty darn close match, luckily! They do a lot of colours, and you can request samples. I had to apply a bit of heat with a hair dryer to get it to stick down firmly when I peeled the backing paper,  as the stock graphic is pretty smooth and shiny (and ive just had a ceramic coating put on). Ideally a cut out would be better, but I'll see how it lasts over the course of a few weeks and washes. Removed all the badging bar the grille, same as my Mk7 - personal preference

If you're looking to replicate, I ordered the 12"
