Title: Is this MDI cable compatible with MK 7?
Post by: dfm on 07 February 2021, 08:54: Only thing my new to me car didn't come with is the female usb lead I had on my mark 6 which enables you to plug a flash drive in.

I've found one on ebay for a fiver with the description - AUDI VW Music Interface MDI MMI AMI to USB Cable Data Sync Charging Adapter UK

Is this the right one? Cheers.

Post by: mcmaddy on 07 February 2021, 11:17: If this is for a mk7 you don't use the old style cable like on the Mk6. Mk7 only has usb ports.

Post by: Guzzle on 07 February 2021, 12:14: I believe if you had a MIB1 generation unit then it uses the MDI cable interface. All sorts of different cables do different things depending on the colour of the collar.

MIB2 units come with a USB socket as standard in the chubby behind the gearstick and the MDI is done away with.

MIB1 = cars built before Week 22 2015

MIB2 = cars built week 22 2015 onwards.

Post by: baka on 07 February 2021, 17:32: yup, I got a cable identical to that for my 2015 so I could charge my phone. Though is you have the 'phone box' option there's a USB in the armrest.
