Title: Light Bar
Post by: buttons on 30 January 2021, 18:10
Is there a way to turn the strip light off that goes across the front?
I've looked through settings on "Vehicle" but cant see anything obvious....

As far as I’m aware there’s no way to switch this light off.

Can’t see it while driving so is it a big issue?

When does it come on? With drl or only with headlights?

I had an ID3 out for an extended test last year and it has the same feature. It only came on with the headlights and you could definitely turn it off completely. I’d be surprised if the Golf is any different.

In reviews that I have seen with it driven in daylight, the bar doesn’t appear to be on with the DRLs so that would mean it only comes on with headlights and/or can be turned off.

let me ask you this; if you had a note on your back saying "dickhead", you'd be alright about it because you wouldn't be able to see it right?

I don't like it and I'm reminded that its there whenever i see the cars reflection :-(
Luckily it only comes on when headlights are on but at this time of year, that's day time too

Hardly a reasonable comparison but then we all move in different circles.

If you don't like it, you don't have to buy it.

I’m not keen on it either and would hope it could be turned off if I was considering buying a mk8 that had this light bar. Others will really like it and I respect their likes and dislikes.

Human nature being what it is we don’t all like the same things, which is a good thing otherwise life would be boring .

Would it not be considered a slight error of judgement buying a car that you don’t like the wheels you spent nearly a grand on and don’t like the monobrow?
The A3 is quite a nice package.

It is but doesn't have anything (yet) in the range between the 35TFSI and the S3 (unless you like to plug your vehicle in).

Surely it can be switched off? It’s not essential or mandatory by law

There’s got to be a way of switching it off in the light settings menu. I saw a mk8 gtd at night and the light bar wasn’t on.

Not really, i didnt buy the car.

On that basis, could the same question be asked to anyone that changes anything on their car?
Surely if they didnt like how it was in the first place, why did they buy the car?

Have you looked in the instruction booklet in the lights section?

yeh, no option there unfortunately

Not a massive issue admittedly but it would've been nice that's all, no drama.

I bet its not too hard to unplug if its that troublesome.  Probably wouldn't cause a bulb warning on the dash but easy to fix if it did.
