Hi All!
Long time lurker, first time poster!
I’ve had my Atlantic Blue GTi for 3 weeks now and putting aside the niggly bits I’ve yet to get used to... it’s a cracking motor!
I just wanted to post and see what other users experiences have been so far?

Not an owner (yet) but maybe. Had a truncated test drive the other day and liked it alot apart from the noisy pipes at the back that I couldn't seem to tone down no matter what profile I picked. Did you go for any options?

Only thing that annoys me on mine,is that the lane assist is on from start up,it’s useless.
Also want rid of the standard wheels,but not decided on what I’m replacing them with as I wanted something other than the vw 19.s.

Well you saw what i thought the other day, overall I think it's a great car actually.
I'd be interested Dave in hearing whether the interface and steering buttons do start to become familiar? That was my only big gripe about it.
I do agree with the wheel question though. As I'm still trying to decide which way to jump (yes more delays on my bmw testdrive) I'm wondering on the golf whether to go with the better looking nineteens or some non diamond cut third party eighteens. I don't really want nineteens tbh, just extra weight and running costs.

Lots of third-party or even OEM VW group options in 18 inch. You may well get a set of 18's for not a lot more than the price VW charges for optional 19's and get to keep your Richmond's pristine until putting them back on before you dispose of the car.

I'd also be ditching the F1's that come stock on eighteens. Swap them for ps4 immediately.
Surprised nobody commented when i pointed out what the mk8 was shod with.

Pretty good tyre from what I've read. Certainly much better than the Bridgestone's anyway. :undecided:

They are better than the mk7 bs's but not as good as ps4. I spent ages on my mk7.5 waiting to get the tyres i wanted, I'll cut to the chase immediately next time.

They’d work out less than £400 as you could sell the Goodyear’s to offset some of the cost of buying the PS4’s. There’d probably be plenty of takers for a set of virtually new F1’s at the right price.

Indeed you can sell them if you can be bothered. But unless you or the person you're selling them to has their own tyre fitting equipment they will have to pay for fitting on top of what they're paying you for the tyres. If they don't live locally there are postage costs too, paying to advertise them etc. The Michelin's will cost you around £100 each fitted. So that's possibly around £200 spent plus time/hassle for what are likely to be marginal gains in most everyday situations.
Each to their own. I'd consider it if the standard tyre was Bridgestone's. But all that time and money to swap out an F1 for a PS4 wouldn't be worth it IMO.

Questions for the OP if you don't mind
1. Is there really no other way to turn off start/stop without digging into the menu options each time you start the car? There is no physical button to press as far as I could see on my demo drive. Can you disable start/stop in the individual driving mode?
2. You cant flick the DSG stick/ stump to the left to enter manual mode and use the paddles anymore, apparently the only way to activate the paddles is to press them. Is there a way to activate the paddles, but not change gear at the same time? In my test drive I found I would be in 3rd for example, I'd want to activate the paddles, but to do so I'd have to drop down to 2nd or up to 4th? If you don't use the paddles after some time, the car reverts back to DSG automatic mode apparently, have you found away around this?
3. I had a quick look at the menu options - is there a way to disable the 'light bar' that runs the entire way across the front of the car when the lights are on? It seemed like there was an option for it, but I ran out of time to dig really deep into the different settings.

Spent half my test drive fiddling with the tech and the other half stuck in traffic. You'd need 24 hours to work out all the functions and properly evaluate the car.

I found no, there is no way of doing it in individual mode and the only way of getting to it was to rummage in the menus. I don't think its in the assist setup, which is reachable with a physical button (I found the lane assist in there)

I've just read the user guide and while it doesn't say specifically about engaging tiptronic mode (at all) it does say that a long pull on the right hand paddle disables it, so it probably also enables it too - either that or doing that with the left hand one enables it. Just my guess.
I don't think the timeout is configurable through the menus, might be through VCDS though?

It definitely can be disabled somehow - reading the manual, its probably under the lighting setup of your user profile...

The interface does get easier,plus you can preset a lot of stuff by setting up an individual user for each driver.
The steering wheel buttons become easier and I can honestly say I’ve never hit them by accident.
I’m starting to use the voice control a lot,as once you learn what to say...you can control a lot of things ,even climate control....just by telling the car you are cold..
The iq lights are awesome at night,best lighting I’ve come across.

Voice control does control other things then... OK that's another nail in the nav Pro coffin then. I think it's just two maps at once now...

Michelin PS4 aren't the be all and end all of 18" tyres. I found them too soft in the sidewall and wouldn't buy them again.

How do you turn off the Lane Assist, is it buried in a menu or a physical button?
It annoyed the hell out of me on my TCR and 135i but thankfully both had easy systems to disable it.
Horrible horrible thing to have in a hot hatch unless you live on motorways.

I’d be happy if I got one on F1’s but I’d probably put PS4’s on when they wore out.
The ones I looked at local to me were on Bridgestones.
To be honest I’d order one on 18’s and buy aftermarket 19’s with PS4S meaning I didn’t have those horrible spats (my 135i has them too) and had a better choice of wheel.
In fact I’d buy cheap replicas as the potholes around my way are becoming like a WW1 battlefield and I’d rather wreck a £500 set of reps than 4x £500 each wheel from VW :angry:

Well, i liked them best of all the different ones i had over the last tens of thousands of miles. As I said, I've spent too long with tyres I didn't like, often because i couldn't choose (company car) to want to do anything else when I can chose.

I absolutely respect that.
Having spent my entire adult life buying cars and changing things on them no matter how new the car I get exactly where you’re coming from.
I used to scoff at people moaning about tyres until I discovered decent tyres myself and how much difference they actually make.
Although I’d not thumb my nose at F1’s and would indeed consider them I’m 100% in the PS4S camp and am looking for some aftermarket crud iron wheels to fit said tyres on currently.

I'm not saying they are a bad tyre, far from it. Very grippy but for me I didn't like the wallowy feel they gave. The guy on Tyrereviews said the same thing. Any of PS4, Asy 5 or conti 6 and now apparently the maxxis (can't remember it's name). Was just looking at Tyrereviews last night and found the BS S001 came first in a wet breaking test so it's not that bad of a tyre really.

The Bridgestones are the S005 so perhaps they might be decent. Sure I read somewhere that they even say GTi on the tyres??

S005 are what you get on a bmw if you don't tick the performance tyre option... I'm advised that you don't want to do that if you are rocking 260bhp...

Michelin are going to start selling 18" PS4S in the UK. They are the tyres on the Yaris (225 40 18).
