Hi all
Looking to leave my 335i for a MK7.5 GTI Performance next month. I'm a little confused about what is standard and what is optional with this trim and facelift model.
I'm basing what I know on this May 2020 VW brochure pricelist:
https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/files/live/sites/vwuk/files/pdf/Brochures/golf-brochure-pricelist-p11d.pdf (https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/files/live/sites/vwuk/files/pdf/Brochures/golf-brochure-pricelist-p11d.pdf)
I can't find a 2017 (67 plate) equivalent so I just wonder much this PDF differs from a 2017 MK7.5 model. On Page 29 onwards, there are tables with a list of kit. I have a few questions about the tables:
1) Is Android Auto or "App-Connect" standard for 2017 too?
2) Is Lane Assist with Dynamic Light Assist standard for 2017 too?
3) Is Front & Rear Parking Sensord with Rear Camera standard for 2017 too?
4) I've read that DCC is standard on 7.5 models but the table shows that it's optional here. Is that the case?
Thank you!
-
Yes android auto.
No lane assist or dynamic light assist.
Yes parking sensors, no camera.
Dcc no.
-
I know it's subjective and I'm sure it's been asked before what optional extras are actually worth looking for?
I hear DCC is useful if the car has 19inch wheels, otherwise, with 18inch it's fine without.
-
By the time you get to the mk7.5 you've got a lot of gear as standard. Yes, dcc with nineteens is perceived as common choice but it's not essential.
Mileage, age, condition, colour and price... Use those.

1. Standard on all 7.5's
2. Standard on MY19.5> (cars built from BW52 in December 2018). Optional before that.
3. Sensors standard on all 7.5's. Camera was standard from MY19.5> (cars built from BW52 in December 2018), previously optional.
4. DCC is optional on all 7.5's.
The problem you'll find is there are lots of brochures/specs for the 7.5. WLTP shutdown, MY spec changes and price rises caused havoc, thus VW were updating their online price/spec PDF's every few months, for example there were 3 in 2018 and 7 versions in 2019!

totally subjective I know, but mine (which BTW isn't a PP model just one of the last 2018 - 230ps models), the things I now wouldn't' want to live without are (this is my list only FWIW):
Essential
- DCC - set to comfort with the 19's gives a superb ride
- 19" Alloys - only because I didn't care for the standard 18" units
- Dynaudio - for a relatively cheap option, IMO it's a superb add on for the sound system
- Art Velours / Leather interior - again, only because I wasn't a fan of the "classis" plaid cloth as standard on the GTI
- Rear View Camera - again, another relatively cheap option but gives a nice clear view and just gives that "added" security over the standard parking sensors.
- Heated Windscreen - had this on my last two MK7's and it really is superb at clearing frost, condensation etc really quickly from the windscreen whilst you just sit in the car without scraping. My car lives on a driveway so it's essential for me, but if your car is garaged, then maybe not.
Nice to haves
- Dynamic light assist - gives the full 4 headlight look and the dynamic main beam feature works really well
- Discover Pro - a very expensive option when new, and some swear by it. If you can get a car with it fine, but if not, then the standard unit is just fine.
- Lane assist, front assist, rear assist, side assist, emergency assist safety package. Love it on mine, but all MK7's/7.5 come with adaptive cruise as standard so whilst not really essential, again it's a nice to have.
- Rear seat airbags - if you carry a lot of passengers in the rear then it's a good option to have, if not, don't worry about it.
- Keyless entry and start button - again, a feature I love for the convenience, but the paranoid amongst us, don't like it for the perceived security risk (although later models like mine can have the keyless entry wireless signal disabled on locking the car by simply touching the door handle after locking).
Neutral or meh options
- Sunroof, no doubt adds to the airy feel of the cabin, but too many reports of either leaking roofs or worse cracked surrounds for me to consider.
- Park assist - if you can't parallel park then it's a good option otherwise don't fret over it.
- Voice activation - is pretty crap to be honest so I certainly wouldn't' pay for it unless it already comes on the car. (standard with Discover Pro option)
- Electric seats - would love to have them on my Art Velours interior, but could only be an add on if spec'ing leather - (at the time of buying mine, leather was an £1,750 option and electric seats added another £595 - so £2,345 to get electric seats. If you find a car with one, then great otherwise, stick with manual seats.
- 90% rear tinted glass - in my option makes the cars look like a Hurst or worse a gangster's car - but then I am an old fart. Stick with the standard and free 65% tint.
- Oryx white Premium - £1k option and not something many spec'd. Depends if you like a pearlescent white finish ?
That's about it from me. Hope it helps.

kmpowell has this spot on. If you want the extras listed on the MY19.5, find a 68 plate (wont be many at all) or a 19 plate onwards

If only it were that simple!
Mines a 68 plate but is a MY19. WLTP shutdown caused cars that were built before MY19.5 changeover to sit at the factory until VW had WLTP sign-off and they could be shipped to dealers. Mine was built in Sep 2018, but didn't arrive at the dealers until late December 2018, and I didn't take delivery until January 2019.
68 plates are a minefield and the only way you can tell is by testing for options themselves, but you're right about 19 plates, these should have everything... unless it's a 2018 built car that's been sat around for 2-3 months unregistered...
-
My car is a 68 plate built late 2018 and registered Jan 2019.
The standard kit includes:
Keyless entry
Rear camera
Adaptive Cruise Control
It was not “new” enough to have the lane departure and traffic sign recognition.
I think as everyone else has commented, you really need to check the spec of each car as there is so much variance in what was fitted as standard.
-
There was a huge amount of confusion at the time as to who has MY19 spec.
Mine was built last week November 18 and didn’t have the 3 my19 options
Kmpowell’s knowledge on these matters was phenomenal!

Very kind of you to say. I was caught right in the middle of it with my car, so I had to unravel the mess with my dealer. :)
All MY19 GTI PP's were supposed to have...
Keyless
Rear Camera
Front camera/sensor with Lane assist, light assist and traffic sign recognition
...included as standard.
However, mine (and a few others) arrived with only the first two items, there was no camera /sensor. this was only picked up after I'd driven away in it.
My dealer queried with VW to double check my car was MY19 and they VW confirmed the MY19 spec/engine (140g emissions for 19's). VW then investigated further and found that it was 'build date' that mattered versus when the new spec was actually confirmed, because apparently there were several configurations that might have become standard for MY19 when WLTP shutdown was in play. The key here is that VW shut down their factory in summer 2018 and stockpiled cars, nothing was delivered to dealers until late December, so 68 plate cars fell across 2 scenarios.
Keyless & the RVC were expected to be standard when mine (and the others) was built, so there are early MY19 cars built Oct/Nov and early Dec that didn't/don't have the front camera/sensor with Lane assist, light assist and traffic sign recognition.
To add further fuel to the fire VW introduced a price rise that complicated things even more for those of us that didn't get the full MY19 options:
MY18 - £31,755 OTR
MY19 - £32,480 OTR - but MY19 comes as standard with Keyless (normally £375), Lane Assist with Dynamic, Light Assist including, Traffic Sign Recognition (normally £650), and Rear-view camera (normally £340).
In my case the dealer refunded the £650. :)
-
I was very pleased when mine didn't come with more useless sh1t!
( actually i'd have been happy with the reversing camera, the other 2 options you can keep).
The gti is extremely well specified as standard so I would advise OP to ask the question "which options do I need?" rather than "which options should I look for?"

Mine has Lane Assist.....
I stopped on the journey home from the dealer we bought it from (new) to disable it and it hasn't been enabled since......

My only experience is on the Mk8 today.... about 10 mins into my testdrive I managed to find how to turn it off.
Blindspot monitoring is good though.

Thank you all so much for the replies. I don't need all the toys but it was really confusing trying to gather all the information using all the versions of PDFs that VW released.
Thank you to kmpowell. The BW52 knowledge is exactly what I've been looking for, for weeks. I really appreciate the clarifications because it was so confusing. How would I find out what build week a particular car has been made?
Thank you to Sootchucker too for that amazing list, huge help. That list is what I'll refer to when searching now. You've basically got the same idea I have.
To Phil245, I agree. I've driven a rental with Lane Assist and it was really annoying.
And to Yusee, you're 100% right, it's only really DCC (even with 18s) and Dynaudio that are essential to me with leather being nice to have.
-
You might struggle to find dcc with eighteens and dynaudio is not that common unless it's a fully loaded car. At one point the older mk7 had an offer for nav Pro with dynaudio for a bargain price, but that was never repeated later.

Apologies, it was BW51, not BW52, my memory was playing tricks on me. :embarrassed:
Sadly, BW can't be identified/determined by anybody unless they have access to the VW system. The VIN shows MY, but that's it:

p.s. DCC and Dynaudio are absolute musts IMO. They both transform the car in their respective ways.

That's great, thank you so much.

I bought a 2018 GTD used with a High Spec, Leather, Sunroof, Auto. Since then I've retrofitted a Reverse Camera for £300 and the VW Audiotec Fischer Sub and Amp for £300 (Many claim this makes the standard system better than the Dynaudio optional extra) these are both very easily fitted and for £600 can help make car hunting easier.
I've also added 19in BBS' with PS4S' and I have never felt the need to say I wish I had DCC. I drive awful roads and on building sites with it, they're perfect. If you 335i is E90 or F30 Series then the golf will be much comfier.
I would try and get one with the high-beam assist and of course DSG 7-speed is a must.

<Sadly, BW can't be identified/determined by anybody unless they have access to the VW system. The VIN shows MY>
Yes, you can identify the BW, this way:
If you open the driver's door you will find a black sticker at the bottom right, which among other things contains the chassis number. On the right side, there are three lines with combinations of numbers and digits.
The first three digits of the last line (just below the engine code) contain the calendar week and the construction day.
In my example the engine code is DLBA (GTI PP) and the three digits are 102.
The first two digits are the calendar or build week - here 10.
And the third digit is the construction day.
The 1 stands for Monday. So here we have the 2nd day (Tuesday) of the 10th week.
And the letter "J" in the VIN tells you it is 2018.

Thanks Dan, that is so useful. I can ask the dealership to take photos of that label for me now. Saves me so much time.

Did anyone manage to find this label? I had a look and could not see one

If you’re referring to the black sticker containing VIN, Axle weight and build date information, in my Polo GTI+ it’s at the bottom of the B pillar on the passenger side of the car. If it’s the car’s data sticker you’re interested in, one copy of the sticker should be in the front of either your service book or your owner’s manual. The second copy should be in one of the following locations;
1. spare wheel well
2. boot floor
3. behind the plastic sill trim (you’d need to remove it to find the sticker) at bumper level in the boot opening. You can see it from 1 min 6 sec in this YouTube video;

Thanks SRGTD, it is the 'black sticker' that I was looking for and could not locate. I will have another look.
