Title: Subtle mods for the TCR
Post by: dobb3r on 13 December 2020, 15:45
Wondering what mods people have done to their TCR’s?
I’ve been toying with the idea of an air filter but seen lots of negative comments regarding them, what are people on here’s thoughts?

I had a Racingline system on my Polo GTI, great addition as I didn’t want a massive induction roar but it did emphasise the turbo whoosh. I like the look of the closed APR system but again, not great reviews.

Apart from the air filter anything else to have a play with?

I've done nothing to my TCR but on my previous PP I fitted a Racingline turbo elbow and intake pipe. Not a huge difference but noticeable so if you want to keep things simple I'd recommend them. Plus a nice bit of under bonnet eye candy

I quite like the look of the Turbo Technics and the Forge pipes that integrate the elbow. I've steered clear of after market performance panel filters having seen a turbo rebuilder state that damage to turbos was often caused by too large particles getting through and effectively sand blasting the blades due to poor filtration.

Very subtle, but for me its just the red GTI sticker overlay for the steering wheel and the car is perfect

I've got a pipercross panel filter in mine and also have the turbo elbow and pipe to go on. Just haven't had the time to fit them yet. Won't be doing anything else to it though although am tempted by the tvs dsg tune.

not looked into yet, but would like a spoiler comparable to the MK 8 Golf R and CS Spoiler as an add on.

I think your right about the performance mods, it’s just about right already.

As for the rear spoiler, I have the Oettinger spoiler on the rear and think it sets the car of much better than the original extra lip spoiler the TCR comes with.

Footrest - replaced cheap plastic original with alloy one to match the pedals. Ordered from superskoda.com intended for Octavia Mk111 (RHD) but fits fine and quality good 👌

The Spoiler is probably my only disappointment - was the Oettinger the spoiler you can option? and if so, did you? or did you do yourself, have colour matched etc?

Its likely that going to keep the TCR and be aside from a full detail this be the next thing likely do in changing the spoiler to something more fitting.

Seems its about £400 with paint matching and installation kit (which is apparently taped and pretty straightforward? does it fit over the existing main spoiler with lip removed?)

I got the car second hand, the spoiler was fitted by the dealer so I’m led to believe.

I have a white TCR and the spoiler is gloss black so matches the gloss back roof of the car, it really does work well.

The lip spoiler is removed which is also taped on, from what I can see the Oettinger is also taped back on the the original spoiler. I have to say you don’t have to worry about it falling off, poop and blanket! 😉

I was lucky it was already done before I got the car but having now had a car with it on I would not want a TCR without one, it sets the car off perfectly.

Pretty sure it was an option, so that makes sense - when take the TCR into my ownership will treat it to a professional detail and ceramic and if likely have them fit the Oettinger Spoiler also as sure can find someone recommended who can do both.

Thanks for advice :)

Thought I’d add a picture, think it sets it off a treat!

That does look very smart  I also quite like the TCR logo on the hatch.

Where did you get the tailgate logo from, is it smaller than the one on the side.I have not seen any TCR with the tailgate logo.

I’d love say it was my idea and here’s where to get it from, sadly it was on there when I got the car ☺️

Would you be able to give a rough price of how much that cost?. I'm thinking of changing a few things on my stock 14 GTi to make the engine noise sound better. Those parts might be an option or possibly just a RacingLine intake on it's own?

Then I can completely disable or massively reduce the soundaktor volume with OBD11

I've also done a bit or research on here about intakes and everyone seems to say "RacingLine or nothing" essentially. I know cheap ones will be rubbish with filtering and risk damage. There are a few other advanced options but the RL one just seems to be the most obvious and safest option

Replacement pipe and elbow will be around £200, the Turbo Technics and Forge all in ones a bit cheaper but not much in it. There are cheaper alternatives which may well be just as good. They won't make much difference to engine noise though.

I guess it's mostly visual then is it?
Just trying to find a way to scrap the soundaktor noises without ploughing loads of money into the car

Which model do you have? Might be worth (if you haven't already) switching off the soundaktor and seeing if you like the sound as is. A res delete has been recommended many times on here and will be very cost effective.

Just seen on another of your posts that you have a MK7 manual? If that's the case, a CSS rear box for around £300 might be the way to go. Should be plenty of comparison clips on you tube to help you decide. The box is often on ebay from Latvia for a decent price, straight swap too.

Superskoda.com cat No. GT-FTROEM-MAN. €29.99. Says for manual but fitted DSG. (Think same footrest also listed for Octavia 3 RHD).
