Has anybody on here upgraded from the 8 inch screen to the 9.2 inch screen shown above?
Looking into it,seems you need the MIB 2.5 infotainment unit for the larger screen to work.
Anybody know how to identify which infotainment unit is fitted to your car without removing the unit?
Also,if you buy a used unit you have to deal with ‘component protection’ and have a lot of programming done, with a chance of losing CarPlay and voice control,if you already have them.
I priced up a new 9.2 inch screen from E-acca,just short of £1100 and that’s just the screen.
I think you would still need to programme a brand new screen to your car, even if you had the correct MIB unit.
I do like the look of the larger screen but is it worth the expense/effort for what you would gain over the 8 inch screen?-which I currently have.

You'd get gesture control (and you'd switch it off almost immediately), a nicer hi res screen that's a lot bigger, finger prints all over it (it really shows up finger prints), a faster more responsive touch screen and maybe the ability to have maps on both screens at once.

I say maybe because depending on who you get to install it, you might get the aid integration, you might not. Voice control might not work too.

And yes it needs the different "brains" in the glove box to drive it.

If you have the standard unit from the mk7.5, I'd not bother... And I have nav Pro.

Cheers Fred,
Need to find out which infotainment units in mine-had the bloody thing out to fit my Helix sub a few months back.
Remember it being tight to get back in due to the mass of wiring behind it.
Spoke to a guy this morning, who has had brand new 9.2 inch screens (albeit not at the mo) for sale,at a great price.
Will keep digging,I gave up on a wireless charger retrofit, due to having to dismantle and disturb quite a bit of trim etc-plus the cost and tracking down of the parts.
This retrofit, despite being potentially very expensive, looks like you don’t need to dismantle much-it’s just the programming and the chance of losing certain things that I’m wary of.

You won't have the v2.5 one unless it was fitted with nav pro from the factory. In which case you'd not be trying to fit it lol.

Ha,nice one.
Was hoping the MIB 2.5 unit was fitted to 2019 MY cars, with the bigger screen being the upgrade required for nav pro to work.
I now know the unit needs upgrading as well,so i’ll keep looking.

Is there any way to update the map data to something a little more modern looking with more detail? - it's always been a bit sparse and looks shocking compared to some newer offerings from other manufacturers.

PS: Does the Mk8 have a map upgrade?

No it's just like that, you can't change it. Nav Pro has slightly different looking maps with sort of 3d views, especially in cities.

The mk8 has over the air map updates via the built in esim as far as I know, like bmw. It certainly has no sd card slots, I've checked!

The only way to get better looking map views is to use something like Google maps if you have App Connect.
