And what tyre width? Offset?
Looking at 18x8.5 ET45
-
No personal experience of 8.5Jx18” wheels on a mk7 / mk7.5, but I’ve just gone onto www.rimstyle.com and there are a number of 8.5Jx18” ET45 wheels displayed that Rimstyle are saying are suitable for a mk7 / mk7.5 GTI.
Rimstyle are suggesting 225/40 R18 tyres - although depending on tyre selection, some 225 tyres without much rim protection on an 8.5J wheel might mean there’s a higher risk of kerbing when parallel parking.
-
Gnasher and a few others have run 8.5 x 19 wheels circa ET45 and 46 so we know that width and offset will fit ok. Keeping a similar rolling diameter using 18” wheels and thus not upsetting the speedo I’d definitely plump for 235/40/18 tyres unless the car was going to be drastically lowered.
225 tyres would just leave the wheel rim too prone to accidental damage.

Cheers guys. Rimstyle was exactly what I was looking at, with 235 wide tyres :) Merry xmas to all

What wheel style are you going for sjw?

Thinking of going for the Romac Radium in Matt Carbon Grey for my White Silver GTI

@sjw; I like those - they look similar in design to BBS CH-R and CH-R II and I’m a big fan of BBS alloys.

Exactly, but I just don't have the cash to splash out on brands like BBS!

This is part of the photoshoot that made me desire this type of rim:

I'm running BBS CH-Rs 18" 8.5 and pretty sure the offset is 45. My 225 tyres still had a lot of tread when I bought the wheels so still running those. Planning to go to 235 once they have worn down so that I have a bit more side wall.
In conjunction with the Eibach Pro lowering kit I have had no issues at all with rubbing or anything like that.
