I really like tornado but Kings Red in on another level. Picture from Joe Knight on twitter.

In that example, I'd go for TR. The KR looks a bit dull but still far better than the multitude of greys that seem the norm these days.
-
I think that Kings has a bit more depth to it but the tornado will be a lot easier to look after I bet.
-
I think KR is the pick of the colours of the Mk8 GTI.... but have to say in that photo it looks nothing like the high gloss press images of it...
On that photo, I'd pick TR.
KR looks like BMW Melbourne red.... which is horrible.
-
Maybe the photo is more representative of what it’ll look like in typical British weather then.

Lighting conditions are a big factor in what a paint colour looks like. This is particularly so with a metallic colour like Kings Red, and pearlescent colours which look their best in bright, sunny conditions or in a dealer showroom under bright artificial light when the metal or mica particles in the paint will ‘pop’ and sparkle.
My Carbon Grey mk6 GTD never looked at its best in dull, overcast conditions. On a bright sunny day when the car was clean, it looked great IMO.
-
Strangely, I prefer my Lapiz is duller lights. Probably a good thing to be honest with where I live.
-
Yeah metallic colours can look vastly different depending on lighting conditions. My Tungsten Silver varies between looking silver, light grey and sometimes it can look beige :undecided:
That Kings Red will look fantastic in bright sunlight.

I've been a bit disappointed with Oryx, even in bright sunlight it doesn't particularly sparkle. Buying new, pure white would be the better choice, Oryx is definitely not worth £1k

Looked at the KIngs Red at a deal with strong lights... The paint looks like pink , didn´t like it at all..

Looks a little pink in this picture:

One of the best looking Mk8's I've seen.

Definitely. A Clubsport with 19s in KR would be the one to go for. I'll be sticking with my TCR though for the foreseeable.

Is that a black roof on that?
-
I thought that too. Could it be a sunroof?
-
Looks like a sunroof to me. There appears to be a line where the opening part is separate to the front panel, very faint though.
-

Yes, as @watfs has said, it’s a sunroof. If you look carefully, you can just see where the front edge of the sliding panel meets the rear edge of the fixed gloss black panel that sits between the sliding panel and the top edge of the windscreen.
VW changed the sunroof design on the mk8; the fixed panel no longer surrounds the sides and front of the sliding panel - the fixed panel is just a strip between the front edge of the sliding panel and top edge of the windscreen.

Really think the wheels make a difference. I reckon the CS will look great in the metal.

Agreed. The standard wheels are so horrific, literally anything else would be an improvement. Perhaps even set of space savers.
I’d like to see real life images of a car on the 19” estorils as I think they’re potentially the nicest.
-
Black estorils of course
-
Kings Red looks

Like the Mk7's, they where god awful too

I think the KR looks just a shade away from old man burgundy!
All it needs is hearing aid beige interior to complete the nightmare
-
not seen the KR yet but the photos people have put on here look a whole lot better than the others I’d seen online - thought it was horrible before. Those wheels are still disgusting.

LOL you just echoed Mrs Groves comments on seeing it the other day at the dealers!

Arteon Shootingbrake in Kings Red. The more I see the colour the more it’s not for me.

It's a nice enough colour but not sporty in my opinion.

Spot on. Looks good on the Arteon, not for a GTI.
-
Anyone else seen the Kings Red in the flesh?
-
Saw a KR T-Roc next to a red Polo in a showroom. Quite different (not sure exactly what 'red' the Polo was but similar to TR). KR is very nice colour but it isn't a 'sporty red' that you associate with fast Golfs. It is better suited to Passats, Arteons, SUVs and the like.
-
It would probably be Flash Red on the Polo. It's a really old colour that's been around since at least the Mk4 days. I think it's a bit brighter than Tornado Red IIRC.
Interesting that you saw a T-Roc in Kings Red, wasn't aware it was available on that colour. 🤷♂️
KR is a bit of a chameleon, it'll look different as the lighting changes.

I believe that they’re pushing KR to other cars in the range. Even the Up I think.

Yeah, it's just that it's not on the configurator or in the latest brochure 🤷♂️

Not like Vw to not have things up to date.
