Hi Rob
I would suggest doing what i did.
I bought brand new non bushed wish bones from GSF. Seam welded them and then I inserted polyurathane bushes which I also got from GSF.
They do a polyurathane bush kit that covers all the bushes on a mk2 golf, wish bones, rear beam, rear suspension top mounts and even sterring rack mounts.
It was made by a company called "Bugpack" and it only cost about £30.
I have no problems with them at all and it made the handling really nice as the ride stiffened up and i can feel everything through the steering wheel.
If you can afford it i would highly recommend a set of eibach anti roll bars aswell  they transform the cars handling plus with the extra weight of the vr6 up front it might help alot.
