Just letting people know if they don't already, VW are offering 20% off service packs for Black Friday.
It's on their website and the discount is available until 6th December. Applies to all VW's, not just Golf's.
https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners-and-drivers/servicing/service-plans
I'm not saying this is necessarily better or cheaper than using a good independent specialist, but it may be helpful to someone.
-
Thanks for the heads up Guzzle, works out at just under £400 for me with a minor and major service over the next two years compared with c.£450 at my local independent.
-
Same here. What’s the going rate for a major and a minor service at VW?
-
Sorry found the answer myself, £184 minor and £354 major. Seems a bigger saving than the claimed £100.
Good find op!
-
Yep, wasn't sure on the minor, but they were going to charge me £354 for the major but price matched the independents £300
-
Do you know if they definitely change the diesel fuel filter on a major as it says (if required)! Trying to justify the price difference with a minor and major. That’s a big mark up
-
Hi Ratski, I have just had a major service and I have been charged for the fuel filter V5Q0 127 177 D. So from that I would say yes along with Air and dust filters.
-
Very helpful, thanks. Also, they're not charging any extra for paying over 24 months by direct debit so was more than happy to sign up.
-
I'm interested and was sent the same deal today... silly question, I've had a look and nothing seems to be mentioned whether the monthly payments are interest free or not?
Any ideas?
-
Thanks, posted at the same time.
-
OK this is weird...
I've just tried to buy the service plan and after putting in my reg and mileage it's telling me the car already has one??
When I bought my approved car in August the only extra I included was to extend the warrantee to five years.
Very odd... can service plans be transferred between owners without me knowing?
Looks like I'll be ringing the dealer in the morning.
-
A result if it has and yes I believe the service plan can transfer, just not be refunded.
-
Huge thanks for sharing this, I’ve just signed up for a two-service plan. Just spreading the payments out is a bonus, let alone any saving.

The previous owner of my car had taken out a service plan which was transferred to me when I bought it, the dealership (non-VW) who sold it to me were totally unaware and I only found out when I booked it into to VW for a service. Looks like you've scored there.
-
So what do you get with a major service that costs nearly twice as much as a minor one? According to VW they just change the air filter and check a few things, or is this info wrong and there's more to it?

24 payments of £16.50 = £396. Therefore, interest free...

In some way I think I’m going to miss the old paper service record, at least I had some idea of what was done (ticked), with the change to the electronic service records I’m not 100% sure where I’m going to be able to see what was actually done at each visit.
Will I be able to see the record via We Connect or is it dealer only?
Bit like the service schedule being removed from the handbook, why??
I’d like to go to the dealer with a bit of knowledge as to what I should be expecting rather than just dumbly handing over my card to pay.
-
Great post OP, thank you.
I’ve just checked and discovered mine has a service plan already and I was never informed! Result.
I’ve sent an email for more info, so you’ve hopefully just saved me a load of cash! Thank you sir

Great result there. Was hoping to save a few members of this excellent forum a £100 or so, but if you've saved even more that's a bonus

Just signed up... Great Find Guzzle thanks.

Yes, I agree, it should be clearer as to what has been done- has pollen filter been changed for example.
I spoke to my dealer this morning-in fact to book a service plan following Guzzle’s post ( many thanks, guzzle)- and asked whether customers have access to the service record. They don’t. The entry on the vw app simply states “service event” - with no details of what was done/ mileage etc.
I would suggest keeping the printed invoice as evidence of service history

Signed up Monday & with my next service being 4 year Major I get new plugs too.
Glad I didnt do it in July when I was thinking about it.
-
Seems to be quite a bit of enthusiasm for this service pack promotion. I understand that within the first 3 years from new, main dealer servicing is a necessity, but my own experience to date of VW dealer servicing is not great and in just over 12 months time when my car will be three years old I will look for an independent.
Having owned most major brands over the years, the only OEM dealer for servicing I would recommend is Skoda. For other cars such as Land Rover, Mini, BMW etc independents have not only been cheaper but more thorough in their work.

Thank you very much Guzzle for posting this. I am not sure exactly but it has saved me well over £100. My car has just flashed up I need to have the oil changed, so its very timely. It is nearly 30 months old but has only 8800 miles on the clock and the oil was changed a year ago at around 4000 miles. C'est la vie! Need to think about extending the warranty next June as the mileage is so low I will probably hang on to it; maybe!

You’re absolutely right - main dealer servicing is often poor quality. It’s also very poor value for money- that’s putting it mildly.
But if you get some discount, it’s probably a reasonable deal for cars that still have plenty of value- bearing in mind some people value “ full main dealer service history “
I’ve rarely used main dealers in the last 10 years- mainly because I found a very good indie for my bmw- still use him for my other cars.
My experience of high profile reputable indies is that their prices can be similar to main agents

I think it's all about getting people in through the door, then finding other jobs that need doing.
I took my lads 2009 Scirocco in for wheel alignment the other day. They do the 'health check' thing when it's in and told me that I needed a new mirror indicator. £169!!! Whilst I was waiting, I bought one off ebay for £23. It took me less than 15 minutes to fit.
-
Anyone having issues with the VW website on this. I can enter my registration (and it finds my car), but when I enter the current mileage, it keeps saying
"Sorry, we are experiencing technical issues and are unable to display the available Service Plans for your vehicle"
Been like that for 2 days ?
-
Yeah the website is struggling at the moment. Skoda are running a similar offer and their site is up the swanny too.
I'd suggest phoning your local dealer if you're worried about missing out.

Yeah, same for me too.
-
In my case, the website didn’t recognise my plate, so I’ve arranged through the dealer
( in fact she had technical issues with the site yesterday)

That's not really a fair comparison, as with their price, you're paying for the technical knowledge and time for them to fit it. You had the time and technical knowledge to fit it yourself but a lot of people wouldn't. A plumber fixed my boiler by opening it up and spraying a seized fan with lubricant. Took ten minutes and still cost me the £70 call out. If I'd had the technical knowledge, it would have cost me nothing. But this wouldn't be a fair comparison.
-
To be fair, the plumber came to you. You are not considering his time away from another job whilst he's travelling to and from your house.
We make it easy for the dealers. We take the jobs to them and often have to hang around being unproductive ourselves whilst they do the work in their own time.
