Title: mk7 1.4 TSI dump valve
Post by: candywhite12 on 19 November 2020, 07:50
Hi guys

Car specs mk7.5, 1.4 DSG, 150hbp

quick question: Can a dump valve be installed in this car?  If yes, will it make a difference in the sound and will it hurt the engine in any way?

Much appreciated

Yes you can fit one, Forge does one with the modified hose...

It won't hurt the engine, but its useless...the turbo has a build in electronically actuated internal wastegate to dump excess pressure...

Cheers mate, yes I've seen the Forge one, so in terms of sound will it add some spice to the gear change you think?  Like it was too much trouble for VW to make it actually sound a bit more whooshy

The standard wastegate is internal dumping to the exhaust side..so no-"whoosing"....& the target market is not interested in "whoosing" either...

It might sound good I have no idea as not interested. I prefer my "silent" Revo stage1-B remap with 190bhp+ & 312Nm+...

no whoosh sound then... got into contact with Forge, DSG won't produce this kind of sound due to the speed of gear shifting.  Well, can't have everything I guess.

I have a manual...

I suppose the next thing you'll be asking as you have a DSG & want "noise" is:- "which pops & bangs tune should I get"....

Is the Revo remap covered in one of your articles Dave?

I've not done anything on it ....yet

I've got a load of info on the EA211 engines & tuning the, & what can & cannot be done, & what is or is not worth the money or time...

I wish I had the Revo map earlier...its very good, I got it set to "performance mode B" as I always use Shell V-power which is actually 99RON..."B" set it at 98RON, & it can in an emergency run on 95RON...

Basically from the factory the car runs on 91/95RON...we never get 91RON...so even the Stage 1 standard "A" mode which is 95RON is what the car should have been...

car is way smoother...I can trickle along at 1,400rpm in any gear & it doesn't sound or feel like its trying to stall....it also goes right around to the red line ...4th is fast....2nd & 3rd is stupid......BUT you can drive it as slow or fast as you like..its very "drivable"....

basically all the old "faults" have been removed....

Excellent, sounds like a bit of a sleeper, always thought that 1.4 engine was a good little unit.

Excellent, sounds like a bit of a sleeper, always thought that 1.4 engine was a good little unit.

Unfortunately the higher output 140/150PS was only made for the R-Line or GT spec & it catches buyers out when they get the lower 122/125PS spec in an SE...

The Revo map doesn't state outputs for 98RON, & Revo never 100% claim you will get "X" power...BUT I know that mine before the remap was 167BHP & 267Nm....That was just Shell v-power, ITG panel filer, GTE blanking plate, & heat shielding the intake & turbo/TB pipes...& changing the oils & spark plug regularly & using top end Castrol 0w40 grade oil...(my engine is just on the older VW recommended oil spec).

Revo state 178 to 200BHP...& 292 to 327Nm.... & that covers 95RON to 100/102RON.....maps A,B,C,.....B is in the middle for 98RON...

Remember the 1.8T in the MK4 Golf & Audi TT....well the highest output from the factory was the Audi TT quattro with 236BHP & 320Nm....the MK4 GTI max was 177bhp & 235Nm

Also the GT 5dr hatch with this 1.4lt engine & a manual gearbox is 1300kg, the 220PS GTI 5dr is 1381kg, so the 1.4lt for similar spec with multilink rear suspension & "lowered" is 81kg lighter at the front!...which means better handling...

The estate version of the GT 1.4lt is 1354kg...so an additional 54kg at the rear!!.....my 1.4lt estate has a lighter nose weight & heavier rear...ie way better front/rear weight distribution than the GTI.......

Many years ago, I used to spend my weekends racing various cars. I was always impressed how simple 1275cc British Leyland engined cars were able to keep up with 1.8 litre cars BL cars. A combination of a very nimble engine and lighter weight cars.
Increasing bore and stroke to 1.8 litres didn't really provide a significantly better engine, especially with the extra weight.

I'm not sure if there are any significant improvements in the 140 (1.4) and 150 (1.5) TSi engines in the Mk 8 golf compared with the Mk 7.

more emissions equipment as far as I'm aware..that's the only difference between my 1.4lt 140PS & the later 150PS ACT....(cylindr shut off)....& the MK8 versions with the 1.5EVO is just emissions...basically enlarge the engine to run it leaner & more economic & get the same power output in all conditions..
