Hi all
I’m looking to purchase a gti performance in the new year.
With the new gti out , are prices likely to drop much ?
I’m ideally after 5 door white , dsg or manual , upgraded alloys and dynadudio would be a bonus.
Currently have a fn2 (civic type r ) for 12 years and fancy a change.
I tend to keep my cars for many years

They may drop a little, but I wouldn't expect them to drop significantly. If they do it'll probably have more to do with the economic outlook rather than there being a new model out. The Mk8 GTi is over £2k more expensive than the Mk7.5 was this time last year, and used prices have actually gone up this year.
There should be plenty white cars around though and almost all late Mk7.5's will be 5 door as 3 door production had already stopped by then. If you're keeping for many years try both manual and DSG to see which you prefer.

Also to make sure you aren't overpaying, use broker sites such as Drive The Deal etc to get the best price for a new car. Obviously a 69 or 20 plate car should be less than the price of a brand new one. Finance rates on new cars should be lower than used too.

Personally if I was in the market for a new GTi then I would be looking at a TCR with options. Defo no sunroof though. Especially going by W the way members have been treated regarding replacement gloss black trim.

As you are clearly used to a manual gearbox, make sure you are 100% happy with the 7 spd DSG before you buy one. I drove manuals for 20 years, incl a Mk 7.5 Golf GTI 6 spd manual. My current car is a Mk 7.5 Glof GTI PP DSG (they stopped making manuals toward the end of the Mk 7.5 era). 3 months in and I absolutely love certain aspects of the DSG - but it is not without its foibles and annoyances - I'm still undecided whether I will revert back to manual next time - make sure you really want DSG before buying.

I hadn’t considered the TCR purely budget related , as I imagine they would be a few extra ££££
I have had a drive of a dsg but only a short drive so not really decided on that yet.
What would you guys say was a must in the option department ?
My fn2 gt was pretty standard .
Finally what would you say would be a good price for a 20 plate early next year ?
Looking forward to coming back to VW after driving civic type R’s for the past 18 years.

28 grand probably I'd have thought... nearly new Golf GTI's even after a new model coming out are never very good value vs new ones with broker discounts.

agree with the above - even more so if you are looking at going down the PCP route - especially if you can still find a few new ones early next year and the 0% apr campaign is still running, as new ones can be cheaper than nearly new

I wouldn't say any options are essential, what options to go for will depend on your budget and what you will find useful. The GTi is very well equipped as standard.
I have on mine reversing camera and the climate screen, at the time these were fairly inexpensive items that I would get some benefit from. All the others were either superfluous, or nice to have but really worth paying for.
As for how much to pay, a brand new manual Mk8 in white with 19's can be had for £29k and a DSG just over £30k. So for a 1yr old late Mk7.5 I would hope to be paying at least £3k to £4k less than that.
