Title: Bluefin
Post by: Oilslick on 04 November 2020, 14:37
I bought a bluefin handset to remap my mk7 golf gti (non pp) manual, followed the instructions and sent my map off to superchips.
I got a nail back saying they do not have a stored map for this car so someone will look into it and send me one.

Week later I get a mail saying there isn’t one available for my specific configuration and they won’t be able to supply one? I don’t really understand it as there are loads of ea888 engines running 217hp and a manual. I mean, they specifically list it on their website.

Got a feeling I’m going to issues with a refund now, as I bought the handset from a US supplier.

Has anyone else had the same issue

I have had Bluefin remaps on three cars, two diesels and the last one my 2010 Mk6 GTI, which I believe has the same engine as yours. No issues at all, although I understand that the Mk7 requires a different type of Bluefin, when I enquired if my R could be remapped with the unit I had.

Apparently it’s nothing to do with the handset, just that a very small portion of cars have files that can’t be mapped?! I don’t understand what it is but they say it’s my specific car and not mk7 golf gti son general.

They’ve said because I bought it from a 3rd part vendor site they can’t refund (although they will unlock it to be used on another car) - the site I bought from says I can’t get a refund as it’s now used.

So I’m £500 out of pocket for what feels to be, not my fault.

Superchips only advise was, maybe you could sell it to someone. Lol

That makes no sense.

The only thing which can make a difference to this is a software version and there can't be a non-standard software version on a Golf mk7.

Unless of course the ECU has already been flashed by someone else.... did you have the car from new?

No, not from new but did buy at 18months old from vw. This is superchips exact words;

The Bluefin is fully compatible with your vehicle however the vehicle you have contains a file that cannot be worked with. This file could be 1 of 30+ different calibrations, file versions etc all for the same make, model, year and spec of vehicle. This is something we simply cannot tell or calculate until we’ve taken a read of your car.

I've never heard of that before.

I get that things can have a few variations over a MY, but not that many...

Sounds like they might be able to do something though?

Car previously remapped so doesn't line up with anything they have seen before?

I’d be surprised if it had been mapped before. As it came from vw approved and gets serviced by then each year.
The person that owned it before was a lady with small children - so seems unlikely she had it mapped from new.

Superchips have said they can’t do anything for my car or do me any refund. All they can do is unlock the handset so that someone else can use it - this would allow me to sell it but I’m gonna loose fair bit of cash in that scenario

I was under the impression that Superchips were in administration?

see here: https://www.catmag.co.uk/superchips-in-administration-following-covid-19-closure

Can still trade whilst in administration.

Why did you buy it from the US for more than the UK price?

Paid $500, they’re £500 here.
As expected they’ve just said this

As you have purchased the device from a North American online seller and not Bluefin UK, unfortunately we can offer no further assistance.

Just a thought. If you lived in USA how/where would you get the map? From a USA mapper? If so why not see if they can help. It’s just a download.

Maybe software different down to very different emission control over the pond.
Keep looking at a Bluefin.

They said it had nothing to do with purchasing the handset in the US, the handset is just the method to upload / download. Apparently it’s my specific car, not mk7 golf gtis, just my specific one.
I kept pestering them until they gave in, so they have reset it for me.

So means I either keep it till I have a new car or can sell it on. The handset works on any vehicle/Audi/Skoda  2.0 turbo - it’s not locked to the car/model as you email them your map then they email you back one for your car.
