Hi everyone,
Advice needed. I’m trying to access the soundaktor to insulate but can’t reach it. If I take the wipers off I’ll get better access. I’ve undone the 13mm nut but the wiper arm won’t budge!
All ideas welcome!!
Thanks in advance.

The wiper arm sits on a tapered spline. You should be able to pull and wriggle it upwards, if really stuck (corroded) it may require a puller?
-
Amazon prime wiper arm puller bud. Use a cloth between the puller and the arm that way you won’t damage the arm. They are £8 I think.
-
+1 They are generally a little corroded (dissimilar metals and all that) gently does with with lots of wiggling

It is just about possible to both disconnect and remove the stupid soundaktor thing without taking the wipers off, although that may very well make it easier.....
I managed to wedge something between the scuttle and the bulkhead and get my hand in whilst an assistant shone a torch in.
I thought about donating the soundaktor to the local kindergarten in case there were any two year olds wanting it for their toy car, but instead I put it in the dustbin for landfill. In 200 years someone will dig it up and wonder what the stupid piece of sh*t is for.......

You could code it out if you want to shut it up? I just turned it to 0% with OBDEleven.

Thanks for the replies. Wiper arms won’t budge still. Apparently Vw use one of those tools to get them off.
I’ve had a really frustrating day. Can’t fix the rattle, can’t get the new footrest to fit and the Amazon delivery driver thought it was a good idea to put my parcel on my car bonnet. Oh well, tomorrow’s another day!

I had this problem on a focus a few days ago, found out it’s the spring pushing the wiper into the windscreen help it tight, worked out if you push the wiper arm towards the screen a few times it broke the seal and released the arm, dunno if it’s the same for the golf

Thanks. I’ll give it a go!

I have had my screen replaced twice and both times they needed a puller to get the wiper arms off. As saud just code it out or unplug the dreadful thing, it is easy to unplug without removing wipers.

I’ve now bought a cheap tool which will hopefully do the job!

Should be fine with a puller. I bought one for use on the X5. Definitely worth it but did take some strength to get it to finally break the seal (but then that’s a 15 year old motor with original arms still in place lol).

Super quick delivery from eBay. Wish me luck!

Just turning the thing off with VCDS is too complicated?

I’m going to whisper this but I quite like it in a really odd way. Shhhhhh. Don’t tell anyone though.

Why hello my friend! Unfortunately after a test drive it hasn’t cured the rattle. Presumed it was the soundaktor but maybe not. Thing is, when I put the car into normal or eco it isn’t anywhere near as prominent.

I presume that the puller did the trick tho?
-
Yeah. The puller was great considering it was only £8. Wipers needed to be in the service position but worked really well. I did just put a bit of padding on them so they didn’t mark the wiper arm though.
-
Thanks, a useful addition to the toolbox then.
-
That’s how I justified it to myself.

Are you absolutely sure it's not a sunvisor rattling? It can sound like it's coming from all sorts of places when they do. My passenger one in the last car was a real pain until I figured it out.

I’ll take a look. Always worth a go! Thanks

Sunglasses holder might be worth a look also. I once found a pair of sunglasses in there

Need to check everything!

Lined my sunglasses holder with foam as they were rattling. However I don't use it now as on hot days it makes the glasses like a branding iron when you put them on.
