Hi,
Newbie to the forum, I’m looking to purchase either a Golf Clubsport S or a RS megane 275 Trophy-R.
The car is not for daily usage, it will be a weekend toy.
How crucial is looking for an A/C specced car CS with reference to resale value?
Does anyone on here have experience of owning both of these cars? If so, how did/ does ownership compare between the cars?

Welcome to the forum bud. Firstly nice position to be in and two great cars. You will get a biased view on a golf forum and similarly if you posted on the renaultsport website. To give you my background I have owned a 275Cup S with akraprovic exhaust and ohlins suspension and also a CSS with no air con. Both sensational car and for feedback I would say the Reno pips it. However what really let’s it down is the atrocious build quality. I sold mine with 8k miles and I swear I’ve driven M3 with ten times that mileage that felt tighter. The CSS was in eco car of the year 2016 and the reviews it got on UK back roads were astonishing.
Your second point regarding AC. Put it this way. Me and the GF at the time went up to Loch Lomond for the weekend one not so summers day. Two hour drive got out and my polo shirt was sticking to me with massive wet patches under my arms. Think it was 23 degrees outside. You save 13kg but pay for it physically. Also buy a antigravity battery and gain the weight saving back. I lost £500 when I sold my car to a guy in fife. I had loads of interest but people were put off with the no AC. He kept it for six months before it went up for sale and it took him six months plus to sell it. I sold it for £33k and he sold it to a dealer for £28k. So yeah it does impact on resale value. I seen auto Devine has a tornado red one up for sale at £34500. If you can hold out and get one with AC if not then you will equally enjoy it but be a bit sweatier lol. You won’t regret either option I don’t think.

Both fab cars. My last Renault was an R26R which I ran for four years.
If the 275 Trophy is as good as the R26R I am sure it will be more of an occasion driving that over the CSS.
I've been lucky enough to have some pretty wild cars but the Golf stands out as something truly special and totally discreet. No one knows what it is!
I think you will be happy with either one.
Air con - essential. Don't buy a CSS without it.

yeah I've been the see the car Tom has at Divine AM, its really really nice.
I personally don't use A/C ever, although the proposed car would be a garage queen and only used on warm dry days.. which I guess would require A/C.. Although I'm based in North East England so its never really hot.
In terms of market value, as a rough guide with mileage intervals vs. price would I expect to pay for a used CSS with air con? e.g 10k miles= £K, 20k miles= £k
My last garage queen was an RS R26.R, so it has boots to fill.

Personally I wouldn’t buy one without aircon my CSS has it and even here in Northern Ireland it’s used regularly but that’s down to personal choice
Personally any non air-con cars I have seen for sale did seem to be for sale slightly longer but with so few cars available they will eventually sell though maybe at a very slightly lower price
White and red cars also seem to have a premium over black cars
As for prices a white CSS for sale over here with 9k on it was recently sold by a dealer for £32k and the car was sold to the mainland
I’ve owed mine from new nearly 13k on it’s a fantastic car
Buy one you won’t regret it

We are of a similar past mate. I also owned a R26.R. Wish I kept it tbh but at the time the GF of then hated it.
I am further north than you and although we don't get that hot trust me it becomes really uncomfortable. And as previously stated I think you won't feel 10-12kg in the weight saving. If you are that bothered buy a antigravity battery and save 20kg straight of the bat. I can only comment regarding my experience with prices but in this covid situation it might now be different. Have you seen the physical car?

I wish I'd never sold my R26.R, it was Racing Blue with all the options, cage, Ti, electric folding mirrors, red wheels and even A/C!
I sold to set up a business. I drive a clio 200cup mk3 as a daily.
Yes i travelled to Tom's business to view the car. The interior is miles better than an RS :grin:
I didn't drive the car as it was awful weather.
Although, I couldn't help be distracted by the 300 Trophy-R he had in storage for a client :shocked:
The new trophy-r is being offered at £41k.. which with 5 years warranty makes that appealing, but then I fear it would depreciate more significantly than a CS.. and warranty claims with RUK can be beyond painful.

The Trophy R at £41k would be tempting however i assume it won’t have the proper R bits on it. Hence the price. Would be lovely though.
As far as I am aware they still make the megane. Have they not just announced the 300 as standard.

Correct, the car is without the carbon wheels. But who could use them without panicking at the sight of a pavement/ pothole.

Can someone shed some light on what the likely CSS values are with A/C?
I can see a CSS with 1k miles is about £35k, what's a rough guide price for examples with higher mileage?

From what I can see their are three cars for sale currently. White and black both with AC and the same miles and one red without ac. £2-1.5k difference from what it seams. Have you asked about a deal with Tim at Devine? From what I remember he sells cars n behalf of other people. He will lift £1k from it so it’s true value is £33500. Personally I would wait and see what comes up in the new year. Or push the boat out and get the Trophy R and blag a deal at £39-40k.
