Title: Anyone brave enough?
Post by: CarbonGTD on 24 October 2020, 11:14
So has everyone seen that Lookers Battersea are selling a 10 mile old Mk 8 Golf GTI DSG today for £32,999 (16 full colour pics of physical car now on Autotrader to view).

Anyone on here brave enough to part with their cash now to beat the waiting list??  It is the same (not very pleasant) grey paint with the same (seriously unpleasant) standard 18 inch alloys as the car the Cheltenham VW dealer received this wk (as pictured by Andrew Chapple on Volkswizard).  I wonder if all of the first physical cars into UK dealers will be this same paint/alloys/gearbox combo?

£32,999 feels like a fair sticker price discount on list before negotiations begin?

I was offered a plain white Dsg one ready in about two weeks. For less money than that 😉

For some reason these battleship grey paint shades seem quite popular at the moment, but i've never been enamoured with them. Good job there are other options available.

I really like the colour but it's not a good choice for every shape of car.

I've wanted a grey one since I saw a rs8 in it years ago.

Skoda i think have had that colour for quite some time too. Vw late to the party.

Yep, apparently it's the standard colour on the new Octavia vRS. Previously it was a paid option.

A dealer had several cars advertised, I found a spec pretty close to what I wanted, spoke with them yesterday & was told the car is not due until late December?

Not really sure why they advertised it? If you see a physical car with pan roof/19s/DCC please let me know.

Waiting for a white clubsport with 19inch alloys and pan roof

God agreed on the colour.

If someone had asked me to guess what the cool new colour for cars would be a few years back, the last thing I would have said would be flat battleship grey..

Looked corking on the tcr though, it really did.

It did, I think that's testament to just how nice the TCR looks though. :)

I’ve had my 20 plate MK7.5 TCR in pure grey three weeks now and I think it’s stunning. Fair play it isn’t to everyone’s taste but I absolutely love it and can’t envisage it leaving my possession for many years

It's a different shade on the TCR though, isn't it darker than Moonstone on the Mk8?

I think you are right. I saw two moonstone mk8 non performances at the dealer yesterday, they didn't look too bad in reality.

I’ve literally just been into VW Chelmsford as I live nearby and they don’t actually have any GTIs in stock, just one GTE. Also, bloody awful service there, I asked when they would have a GTI available for a test drive and the sales guy said “god knows!” 😂

Pretty much the same response I have had from them. If they’re not interested or cannot be bothered then why advertise a number of cars for sale knowing they don’t have them and no idea when they get any.

Here are the two shades of grey side by side (credit to Volkswizard Twitter for the pic)

Mmm, the TCR looks like it was built to be that colour, whilst on the Mk 8 the lighter shade just looks like insipid primer.  Oh and those DRL's   :embarrassed:

Yes the tcr looks purposeful in that shade and the mk8 looks meh.

Given how all of the press cars are King's Red, its surprising that I've not seen one reported at any dealerships...

Wonder if it’ll look better on the Mk8 Clubsport?

Dr Evil’s outfit is possibly Moonstone Grey.
