Title: GTECHNIQ C5 wheel armour.
Post by: My other womans a vw. on 10 October 2020, 19:19
Just had my winter wheels powder coated ‘German Grey’,which is just an alternative name for satin anthracite.
Purchased a 30ml bottle of GTECHNIQ C5 to apply to them, before I have the tyres fitted.
Has anybody used this product?-if so,what did you think??
Any tips or advice would be great.

Err...yes,the other one.
When I dropped my wheels off, they had sample alloys on the wall in different colours/finishes.
I clocked a merc alloy in satin anthracite and when i asked him, that’s when he revealed it was ‘German Grey’-sounds exotic, doesn’t it.
‘Hey,I like your wheels,is that anthracite?’
‘No,it’s German Grey!’

I used C5 on new wheels fitted to my previous GTi.
It is a forensic process to get the wheels clean before application. Part of the reason I used it on new wheels, to prepare used wheels would have taken hours!
I am no detailer, it's good, but I have no idea if it's any better than a decent wheel wax, which is certainly easier to apply.

I've got it on both sets of my Belvederes and it just makes them so easy to wash and clean.

Cheers chaps, its only the fact the wheels are fresh and ‘bare’ (no tyres or valves) that i’m applying it,otherwise i’d use poorboys wheel sealant or something like that,as clubsport says, used wheels would take hours.

C5 is one of the most user friendly sealants to use.
Wheel waxes won’t last as long as c5. For £30 a bottle it’s worth applying. I’ve used sealants for years and a good coating will last at least a year.
Watch loads of videos to get tips. Importantly take your time and don’t over apply. Oh and use different clothes to remove. Otherwise it will just spread and will be hard to remove.

Is it therefore best to apply whilst wearing a 3-piece suit and remove wearing something more casual like a T-shirt, shorts and trainers?

Waste coats seem to work best at removing the sealant from the wheel for some reason 😂
