Hi there
My 7.5 TCR is booked in for a new screen with AG on Friday, as my insurer's preferred(best commission!) fitter.
What's peoples experiences with them?
When I booked it, the AG lady assured me their techs could reconfigure the ADAS camera if fitted, FOC. Their T&C's on the booking form suggest otherwise, and I may have to pay VW to reset. I pointed out it has climate windscreen. What's the betting the replacement hasn't.
I also note that they don't necessarily replace with OEM? Would that affect warranty?
Your comments please.

I’ve not had a replacement screen by Autoglass but I have had a repair - it was a mobile repair at my home.
The guy that did the repair was very professional and meticulous, smartly dressed and his van was clean and tidy. He seemed to genuinely interested in cars, which was a good sign. He checked the car over before starting work and agreed it’s condition with me. Covered the bonnet and wings to avoid damage (although if the car’s dirty, that could inflict swirl marks!). The repair was good too.
I had a previous screen repair by National Windscreens - scruffy guy in dirty overalls and dirty van. No checking over of the car before starting - just did the job. To be fair, the repair was OK though.
I think the quality of work will depend to some extent on the individual operative doing the work - much like the smart repair guys who do paintless dent removal and localised minor bodywork repairs.

If they replace with non-genuine OEM parts then it won't be covered by VW warranty. Ask Autoglass to confirm in writing what the warranty arrangements are.
-
Non-OEM parts.... it is the same part, its just not got the VW part number on it - same manufacturer - Pilkington.
And they can only refuse warranty claims if its related - eg your turbo fails, it can't be the windscreen that caused it.
-
If you have a climate windscreen fitted, it should definitely be replaced with a climate windscreen.

Thanks for the replies so far. I've sent an email to AG CS asking for clarification on the points raised.

I got a replacement screen not OEM.
It was as if the rear view mirror was slightly loose although felt rock solid on the window.
When looking in the mirror while driving everything was blurry / shaking.
Driving at night made me feel sick as all I could see was dancing white lights in my peripheral vision.
I got them back to look at the mirror but it had no play and of course the fitter couldn't really see the problem!!
Anyway sitting at the lights one day after cranking up the music for a song I like and noticed while stationary the mirror was distorting things. The bass was causing the same / driving vibrations.
Autoglass agreed to swap it to an OEM screen and it cured the problem.

I had to have mine replaced last December due to a chip that turned into a crack. I got in touch with Autoglass and specified that I wanted the OEM and they said that was fine but they just needed a week to get it. The fitter then came to my house and did it in the carport. Made a really really nice job of it but I would imagine it depends on the fitter as to how good the finished job is.

When I got my car it was just in to the 7.5 run, after a week the screen cracked, I asked for OEM but vw said they don’t have screens out yet so had to go replacement, guy came round and told me as I have all the cameras I’d have to go to the depot to get it fitted and calibrated (which was £350), as he didn’t have the right screen or tools, went to depot and they fitted and calibrated it no problem, I presume 3 years down the line they all have the calibration equipment, the guys at the depot told me it’s the same glass just with a different logo, plus access on insurance has gone up from £50 to £75-100 to cover the calibration charges

I had a windscreen replaced on my Mk7 just before it went back 3 years ago.
Autoglass did it, it was fine.
The mobile fitter was really good and had all of the gear.
I'd not worry too much...

I had mine replaced with AG and the fitter advised that if the car was a fairly new, i can't remember exactly but i presume within 3 ish years. They would fit the VW windscreen, with the VW logo in the corner of the screen exactly the same as what your car will currently have. However if its an older car (like mine 2014) they would fit a windscreen that was produced by the same manufacturer, exact same spec it just won't have the VW logo.
They did a good job replacing mine. However my soundaktor started rattling after new windscreen, not sure if the two where related, I just had it unplugged all together and problem solved.

I concur with all of the above. My car was 2 years old when the screen cracked. The replacement was carried out by Autoglass to a high standard. I had to wait a week longer for the job to be done as insisted on an oem screen.
-
My 3rd party windscreen was definitely not as substantial as the OEM they replaced it with.
I don't know if the thickness was slightly less and enough for the screen to be affected by vibrations.
I can't fault the fitter though.

Glass is generally only made by pilkington and Saint gobain and then marked with the manufacturers logo. Unless these places are getting cheap knock off glass from somewhere then a one without a logo should be exactly the same as one with.
-
I’ve had non OEM screens (without the VW brand) fitted in previous cars. Never had any issues with them, and as mcmaddy has said, they’re made by the same manufacturers as the OEM screens - and I’d assume in the same factory as the OEM version.
-
I must admit, I did dread needing the heated screen being replaced on my TCR and it did pick up a couple small chips that thankfully didn’t require any attention.
-
I had my windscreen replaced by Autoglass today owing to two boys dropping stones onto cars from a elevated walkway over a dual carriageway, the glass was cracked and had numerous holes. - very scary!
I was informed by text about times, the sanitiser procedure and a reminder this morning.
The car is a mk7.5 so I had to drive the car to the nearest depot for the camera calibration.
The staff were very professional and the windscreen replaced within the time they recommend.
I was impressed with the service.

I had AG do a replacement on 2 of my previous cars where the first went with no issues but the second it was fitted poorly and had to be replaced at their cost. As my cars were under 3 years old I asked for an oem screen which delayed the fitment as they had to get approval from the insurance bods but always insist on oem for new cars.
-
Had mine replaced with AG last year absolutely no issues at all.

A few years ago had a company Vectra and windscreen cracked. Rang Company Car help desk and was asked for make, model, ref and “does it have a top tint?”, No is doesn’t.
AG central booking rang me back, same questions including “does it have a top tint?” No.
Local branch rang to confirm appt, by the way does it have a top to tint? No.
Turned up at branch next day, guy comes out to inspect it and first thing he checks? Does it have top tint.
End of day I go to collect, all done except they didn’t have the exact windscreen so they fitted one with..... a top tint!!
Previous car was Insignia, rang to arrange and mentioned it was kitted out with al the sensors etc, no problem. Mobile fitter arrived, took one look and said wrong screen, he had to ring his office and explain and they were adamant he was wrong until they finally realised their error. None available for another week.
So their fitters are brilliant, it’s the admin they struggle with.

I had my climate screen replaced on Tuesday by Autoglass, I was a little worried by some of the reviews but they did a perfect job. Took the tech an hour to fit, no damage to the car. The glass they put in is the same make but without the VW sign, I can't tell any difference. Not rained yet so it may leak.... but I'm hopeful

Postscript to the above
After a lot of to-ing and fro-ing between my insurer(they wouldn't pay for OEM) AG(£390 for an OEM screen) and my local dealer (you won't get an OEM screen fitted by AG), I went quietly and the screen was replaced on Friday. Lo and behold an OEM VW logo'd screen supplied by St Gobain(exactly as was previously fitted) was installed. I did check in case they'd done a repair, but it was new, as I'd taken a picture of the previous screen's logo, and the new one's lettering was slightly different.
So really pleased for my £75 excess payment to get the same. Cameras and ADAS all are working and warranty wise, AG do provide a lifetime one whilst you own the car.
