I have missed the gold Mk7.5 since having to sell mine a while back, had a few, loved them... Now i'm being offered a new one, Performance Gti in Deep Black... Never owned a Black car, would appreciate some advice here as i am billy no mates where i live lol...
Its a Standard spec , no extras on it... not sure what to do
-
With no mates, you'll have plenty of time needed to lavish your attention on the DBP paint that it WILL require.
-
I thought this would happen :smiley:Black paints a nightmare isnt it ?
-
Black. Hmmmmmm.
I would never be brave enough but treated properly it will look amazing.
Didn’t get my roof wrapped black as I knew the marks etc would make me twitch.
-
Getting it ceramic coated should help?

A black car is a labour of love if you want to keep it looking good and you’re prepared to put in the effort to keep it looking good. Be prepared for that just cleaned look to be quite short lived though, as black (and other dark colours for that matter) shows dust and dirt much more than lighter colours.
I’ve owned more than my fair share of black cars, and I’ve learned the following from experience if you want black to look good and to minimise paintwork swirls;
- never ever let the VW dealer inflict their ‘scratch ‘n swirl’ treatment on it (a.k.a. complimentary service wash)
- steer clear of the many hand wash places
- use a safe two bucket method wash technique
If you keep it well protected with a couple of layers of wax or sealant, or invest in a ceramic coating, it’ll be easier to wash it when it does become dirty.
Would I buy another black car? Maybe if I got a good deal on one I would. My next car is likely to be white though.

Yea maybe its not for me then this time... I'm ocd when i see the slightest mark etc.... be constantly out on the drive cleaning it probably..
-
yeah can be a nightmare to keep clean, but if your into detailing etc then shouldn't be an issue, or yeah if you get it ceramic coated, it will help a lot.
i had a black fiesta, was only wax'd and was pretty decent.
-
To be honest I have had a black car in the past and found it no worse than my pure grey TCR. Paint sure seems soft even when ceramic coated.
-
DPB is amazing when clean, had it on a Passat for 5 years. But it's clean for approximately 30 mins after washing and then shows every spec of dust, dirt, sap etc.
I love black cars but I'd never own again one unless it garaged.

Thanks for the input , i have rejected the Black Paint option, hopefully can find something else for me
-
I have got myself a Mk7.5 Gti Performance sorted , in Indium Grey
-
Congratulations! What is the rest of the spec you've gone for?
-
Its just a standard spec for me , no fancy extras this time
-
I always go light on options but because I’m tight. Indium is a great colour choice. Congratulations and enjoy it.
-
Haha me too , well it seemed the performance Gti had a few things my first mk7 Gti cost me a good few quid to spec
-
I always add 90% tints and 19s but little else. As you say it’s very well specced really. Drive it and love it!
-
Thanks mate 👍🏻I’m looking forward to getting back into a golf Gti
-
Indium is a great colour Aidey.
The late model GTI’s are so well equipped they don’t need extras.
Well, apart from spacers and a pedalbox...

Thank you Exonian , cant wait to get hold of it... time to stock up on dodo juice product again....
