Title: Car net renew or not
Post by: Catnapper on 09 July 2020, 16:01
As subject says, should I renew Car net?
Not even sure if I utilise it so would I notice if it went. Usually use AA for everything.

Not a huge amount of help to you, but since I've had my GTi, I've never managed to get VW help on line or in the showroom to sort it out for me, and can't say I feel as if I'm missing much (had BMW Connected previously and felt the same with that - good for checking the car was locked if I'm in bed, but that's about it ).

Carnet is garbage. AA is much better in every way. What does Carnet even offer?

Has it actually expired? I've never seen anyone say it expired?

CarNet (in my 2019 model GTI at least) will automatically call 999 if my car is in a crash and the airbags deploy and I don't specifically cancel the request within 30 seconds (because I'm either dead or otherwise unable). Via the app you can also set alerts for various events such as if your car exceeds a set speed limit or drives outside a defined permitter - which is useful if you have teenage kids who borrow the car I guess? Personally, I don't. And even if I did, they sure as hell wouldn't be borrowing my GTI! I think it does a few other bits, and mine is paid for for the first three years but it's not something I will be paying to renew. If they throw it in for free, then great. But otherwise, it would be no real loss.

I can get live traffic data for maps shown on the Active Info Display.

That's about it.
