Title: MOT Fail on emissions
Post by: Tornado8 on 09 July 2020, 15:26
Hi
My stage 2 Revo has failed on emissions  I am at a loss to know why, as it has passed the last 3 times.
I think it measured 0.9 Co. Is that anywhere near the pass, or way over? Will I have to go back to REVO to
have it adjusted. Thanks in advance

Have you been using your car much in lock down?  Maybe give it an Italian tune before you go in and make sure the cats have warmed up nicely?

I will give it a italian tune before I take it in. I have also put in some wynns emission additive which I hope will work.

Hi Tornado8
Max is 0.3. Which downpipe are you running? Perhaps the CAT efficiency has deteriorated - what were the previous 3 MOT CO results and had the results got worse over the 3 years?

Hi
The downpipe is a 100 Cel from BCS. I've had it for about 4 years

Have you spoken with Nigel at BCS Tornado8? I think 4 usage from a 100 cell race cat is good going but there are many factors involved. What was the CO result last year?

The Co was 0.3 last year. Do your idle revs stay even? as mine seem to hunt . I'm going to give her  a
proper run  before I take it in and, hopefully she will pass. By the way the mileage is 83000.

Any update on this?

Sorry been on hols. She passed on fast idle, just. Looks like a similar problem next year  Could be due to the 100 CEL cat plus the mileage 84000. Am going to try FTC pellets in the tank. Maybe snake oil, but for £30 I think it's worth a punt.

Total snake oil - don't put random crap in your tank to rattle around.

Have a look at this, as a graduate Chemist, I can confirm his science is sound:-

Monkeyhanger. Would a catalytic exhaust cleaner be better, or is that rubbish as well.

If you're getting carbon monoxide in your exhaust, your catalytic converter isn't running at its best, or there's not enough oxygen (from air in) in the engine to allow a proper  combustion (unlikely) and not enough oxygen getting  into the exhaust to convert CO to CO2. If your air filter is newish/clean and your mpg isn't crap, i'd blame the catalyst. Don't know whether there are effective cat cleaners out there. After all, if it goes through the fuel system, whatever's in it will be combusted.
