Title: Speed limit indications on Mk7.5 infotainment system
Post by: Torch on 02 July 2020, 10:35
Good morning,

My car a January 2020 Mk 7.5 is always showing a speed limit of 60mph on a dual carriageway that has a speed limit of 70mph.
My September 2013 Mk 7 showed the speed limit at 70mph.

Does anyone have any thoughts on a resolution please? Or is a feature of the 7.5?

Regards

I've noticed mine does this too, and indicates 20 limits erroneously on a regular basis. It is off putting and distracting especially when there are cameras. You start to question yourself and slow down unnecessarily.

I know the system uses the forward facing camera to look for and read actual speed signs, and if non are available then it uses whatever is programmed into the current navigation maps data.

Long shot I know, but maybe the map data is out of date (or has some errors in it), and just needs an update ?

The one in my 2018 GTI seems to work perfectly ?

I don't think the Mk7.5 uses a camera for this feature as mine didn't have a front camera in the top of the windscreen so imagined it was done through map data?

It does if you have the traffic sign recognition option

Mine seems massively random and I just completely ignore it.....

In my camper van, where it is more difficult to see the speedo, I have just bought the Snooper Myspeed XL which shows your speed and the speed limit of the road you are on, based on GPS/mapping data.

It is far more accurate, but even so not 100% so.....

There doesn't seem to be any substitute for looking out like a hawk for the posted speed limit

That sounds good. But I neither have it or access to it. I would prefer it if my car stopped giving me duff info. I will try and update the nav at some point and see if it helps but I doubt it since the issue is so widespread. Fingers crossed.

 As a new owner I assumed this feature is an optional extra, as I don't see it?  I just use Waze through AA/ACP? More up to date, reliable and interactive?

If you haven't got the camera based option, it's going to be using the nav data. Seeing as that only gets updated twice a year and will always be well behind road changes its never going to be great.

You need this set up in the windscreen for active traffic sign recognition, otherwise it only use the data stored in the Navigation maps.

Google maps now has the speed limit visible as well

My car has traffic sign recognition etc. and does everything that the op listed. I also had even stranger behaviour when the NAV SD card was not installed. I keep my NAV card data up to date, so that is not the reason.

Another weird thing I’ve noticed is the limit indication changing to 60 when I go under or over motorway bridges.

They will have to improve this indication before it can ever be used for the active speed limiting we are threatened with.

As Fred said, Waze gets all this right, all the time!

Yes through AA/ACP.

Available to most (AA/ACP integration been around for some time on the Mk7 now) and its free for your phone, assuming you aren't running a Nokia 3310 or one of those analogue "portable" phones.
