Fault switch is warranty and quite common across lightly used cars with DSG

With 16k on the clock at the mo, that would make sense ajmoir36, booked in next Wednesday at Marshalls in Grimsby, sounds like they've heard of this issue a few times before. l've a Ghost immobiliser going on this monday, just for a bit of extra peace of mind, hopefully it won't be near a garage after next week for a while.

My dads Octavia VRS (17 plate is doing it) 14k on clock being fixed in August part on back order (in warranty just), and my mums Golf GT (15 plate is doing it) not had time to take it in yet has extended warranty until end of April 21.

Rumour has it if you move the shifter 50 times (or so) from P to D it cleans the contacts in the microswitch and solves the issue (temporarily) both cars flagged errors in VCDS scans.

Mine has never done it as it gets more use.

Mine throws the same error intermittently, unfortunately the only way to really resolve it is to change the entire shifter assembly as it's caused by a faulty microswitch.

I've just learnt to live with it as replacing it requires the entire center console to be disassembled, it doesn't affect driveability at least.

Be interesting to see what occurs on Wednesday/Thursday, they were guessing it was a switch, but ok to drive, so will update next week

So the fix was completed and the warranty covered it, result...

Has anyone ever been charged or attempted to be charged for a head unit update after the unit going blank every now again ???

Why would you if the car is in warranty?  Did they attempt to charge you?

The Head unit (l've been told isn't covered by the extended warranty) they have told me its an £85 bill.

Extended as in bought after the car came?

To be honest it seems to be an unexplained characteristic if you google it. As well as the radio stations disappearing at times.
I think I had it twice in my previous Golf but Ive also had it on my PC, works PC and even TV the odd time.
A quick off and on sorts it.
My wife had it on the way for a routine service, (what's the chances, usually it doesn't happen)
I had called her and she had no way to see who it was or answer it so pulled over to dig her phone out her bag.
She was told it was a known issue and flashed her firmware and that seemed to cure it.

So l bought the car in April from a guy off this forum, the Das Welt Auto extended warranty that he bought l presume when he purchased the car was transferred to me, took it to my local dealer for the issue with the gearbox and mentioned that the radio would sometimes not play ball, no problem the service guy explained, then the call came that the head unit wasn't covered, tried the on/off method to no avail many times.

Doesn't surprise me that extended warranty doesn't cover the entertainment system. If the job has fixed the problem I'd just pay it because a new entertainment unit is super expensive.

Just rang Das Welt Auto, the dealership didn't even attempt the claim for the head unit !
Spoke to one of there technical guys and it turns out it would be covered.... its on my notes that l've spoken to him so just rang the offending dealership and the claim is going to be attempted this afternoon....

Why would a component that is now so fundamental not be covered? Just the usual poor dealership experience. Page 13 of the Approved Used Warranty Cover Booklet  :nerd:

Totally agree JV, no call back as promised yesterday, lost confidence in this dealership.
