Title: Just Taken Delivery - No Start-Stop/Keyless Entry
Post by: pixelcellar on 16 June 2020, 12:17
Hi all

I've finally taken delivery of my 7.5 PP and found that it had no start/stop or keyless entry on it which I thought was odd as it comes as bog standard. My car was built last week of November 2019 and apparently according to the dealers VW removed this facility a few weeks before for an undisclosed reason.

Question is, A) Is this a fob off, B) Should I be bothered (everything else is present AFAIK) and C) Anyone hear anything about this at all?

Thoughts appreciated...

Mine was built in September 2018 so it sneaked in pre the 2019 MY spec

Stop / Start I have - but turn it off - I hate it and it feels counterintuitive to warm up / warm down a turbo engine
Keyless - I don’t have and wouldn’t want anyway after having it on a previous car.

I wouldn’t worry.

I assume you have the rear view camera - which I ordered as an extra - again, had that on a previous car and would have missed it.

There hasn't been keyless on 3 doors for a long old time.

I don't think we ever figured out why.

@pixelcellar - if your car is as per your signature details; a three door car, then keyless entry wasn’t available on the three door in the later production years of the Golf.

As for stop start - I thought this was standard fitment on all UK spec VW cars and has been for a good few years. It will have helped VW achieve their emissions and mpg targets for the GTI so why would they remove it? A 2019 Golf GTI performance model should definitely have it, so assuming your car is UK spec, you should have it. Do you have the button down by the gear lever / DSG shifter to be able to manually switch stop start on and off?

Edit; stop start was standard on the base model Golf S in the May 2020 price list (the last mk7.5 price list?) - it’s listed under ‘efficiency’ at the bottom right section of page 9 - so this feature wasn’t removed from late 2019. Link to price list below;

I'm guessing it's the start push button that's missing as all UK cars have start/stop functionality.

Sorry guys, my wording was a bit poor, I have the auto start/stop when you stop driving, but no start/stop button for when you get in and want to fire it up.

Sounds like it's not a thing for 3dr's which I wasn't aware of :-(

the start button is part of the keyless pack and its not on 3 doors for some time...

Thanks all, had no idea the button wasn't on 3dr, was never told nor did I ask as I'd seen plenty of interior pics with said button. Hey ho, no major issue, least I don't have to worry about stashing my keys in a faraday box thing :-)

Found it.... end of October 2015 it stopped on 3 door:

I read all 4 pages of that thread and I still don’t know why VW removed keyless and push button ignition from the 3 door  :undecided:

No, I have no idea other than maybe they didn't get many people spec'ing it on 3 door and the door lock mechanism was specific to the 3 door.... guess that was probably it.

Could be more 3 door Gris are getting stolen via that method

TBH, I didn't realise that 3 door performance Golf's were being sold anymore - thought they has discontinued them a while back ?

I got one of the last, made late November, has been sitting in a showroom for 6 months, would have had it back in April had Covid not struck and only just got delivery! Glad I scraped in there to get a 7.5 though, its a lovely car, preferred by me to the mk8 too.

I got mine in late 2016 and I think it was one of the first batch of 3 doors not to be offered with keyless so it's been a thing for quite a while.  I heard at the time it was due to a parts shortage and they were only being fitted to 5 doors but that can't have been the case if it was still the case with 2019 / 2020 cars.  I can't say that it has ever bothered me.
