When washing the car, I've noticed that the water, my wash mitt, or a particular gust of wind anywhere near the door handles will cause the car to lock or unlock.
While I quite like this feature most of the time is it possible to temporarily disable it while washing the car? Preferably with the door mirrors out as well, so I can clean them properly.
Had a brief look in the manual but couldn't see this exact topic. I'm sure someone here will know!
Thanks

Open the car then put the keys back in the house until you're finished.

That makes a lot of sense. I don't know why I didn't think of it! Thanks :)

I do just that to stop the wing mirrors flapping about when cleaning around the front door handles.
Can you set mirrors to only open when the ignition is on via VCDS? Not sure why VW set them up to open on unlocking, so if you nip into the car to get something the mirrors don't open unnecessarily. The noise the motors make when unlocking, makes uou think they won't last much more than 5 years with average use.

Yes there is a vcds mod for that for certain cars, or you can lock the car with the key and press the outside door handle sensorfor a few seconds to turn off kessy

Or just open the car and put the key on the driver's seat. Quite a simple problem to overcome I'd imagine.

That's the one I do, although in the house as suggested earlier might be a bit more secure (unless you have keyless like me lol).
Also, as an aside, I remember the early cars had different mirror behaviour than the later ones. Mine's a 2014 and it opens the mirrors on unlock but I think some of them did open the mirrors on ignition on (or something like that).

You don't have OP's problem if you don't have keyless....

Finally got round to washing the car today and tried various things to stop the mirrors folding and doors unlocking.
I unlocked the car, put the key in the house and then the car kept locking itself (so the mirrors folded in). I was able to touch the door handles without it unlocking obviously as I didn't have the key nearby but I wanted the mirrors out.
So I tried doing it again with the key nearby but not in my pocket. Same thing. If I had the key on me, the doors kept locking/unlocking.
It's really annoying. Any other ideas? Is there a setting somewhere that I need to change? I will have a look myself tomorrow if I get a chance but was just trying to get the car cleaned quickly today before a long journey tomorrow.

After you unlock the car you must open and close a door, otherwise the car will re lock itself after one minute. If the key is then out of range, you should be fine. If it still keeps happening, your car is haunted.

Another excellent reason to have keyless then...……..

Ah I didn't open any doors, that'll be why then. Thanks :)
