After buying my GTI about 8 weeks ago I, like many others, started investing in products to care for both the exterior & interior including a new marcher k4, foam gun & a various other bits and pieces. After a couple of washes I noticed a few stone chips & scratches so started looking into getting the car professionally detailed and ceramic coated. My thinking was that i was as well to get the paint work as good as possible and protected if I was going to invest time and money looking after it. Cleaning the car is something that I enjoy but it just felt pointless putting all the effort into the car if I was going to see the existing marks every time I cleaned it.
I spent a lot of time researching local detailers and some not so local as I was prepared to travel to find the right one. After many calls and emails I found a local guy who is certified with qtechniq and modesta and after spending about an hour in his workshop one day I choose a package of paintwork enhancement and modesta ceramic coating. He also invited me to come watch him/learn from him any day I was free while he was working on my car. His philosophy was that he wants the customer to learn what they are paying for and how to look after their car once it is coated. Also he would show me how to apply the ceramic correctly and let me do various items not included in the package myself in his shop using all his equipment. We agreed a price and the job was scheduled to take 4 days.
Then last week he rang to say he had a cancellation and could take my car if I wanted so off it went. My days off from work I spent in the garage watching him and learning how to “really” care for my car at a level way above I had ever expected. His attention to detail was meticulous and nothing was just “good enough” it had to be perfect even if it meant him having to spend hours and even a full day almost on just the bonnet sorting out a stone chip that had gone right down to the metal. While he had the car up on the lift I took the opportunity to fit a new rieger diffuser which he helped with. As the job went on he even did extra ceramic work not included in the original package. Basically everything is now covered in ceramic...bodywork, wheels, wheel arches, callipers, black trim, new diffuser, glass, even the plastic mounting bracket for the diffuser which sits in behind the diffuser that nobody will ever see.
In total the car spent 9 full days in his workshop & during this time it is the only car he worked on. I know this because I spent most of the days there with him and even when I was at work I’d drop down to visit and he spent most days from early morning until nearly 10pm at night in the workshop. He even offered fit xpel ppf to the black gloss pillars between the doors at no extra cost. Also as the job went on because the VW paint was very hard and some of the scratches were very bad he ended up doing paint correction instead of just enhancement which meant a lot more polishing work.
Photos or video do not do his work justice but here is a short video collection of the process. (Excuse my armature editing attempt)

Looks good but 7 days on a white car
I'm guessing he is a mate of yours as he must have lost money on that job

 Never actually met him before this but a very genuine guy who is passionate about his work, I’d imagine he just about broke even but has a love of golfs & has been looking for one similar to mine for a long time so guess he took a personal interest. Also I suppose he had the time as it was a cancellation spot I got for another car that was due to be in all week & the ceramic was a day late arriving which held things up a little. Either way Win, win!

Sounds like he was bored or lonely during the shutdown. Some people do get lonely at work. A mate of mine is an excellent plasterer, but he doesn't like working alone so he pats one of our dole walla mates £50 a day do do pretty much nowt beyond the occasional mixing of Thistle Multi Finish.

9 days without the interior being touched?!? How many coats did he do of each product. Modesta is good stuff, Japanese, like the Kamikaze treatment on mine, but most of the time spent is curing/drying time between coats. Mine was gone for 4 days (but it was brand new so required less prep) so if your car was used then yeah an extra day or two for more prep, but an extra 5 days?

Your results look good, but I hope you didn't pay more than £500-700, especially if there's no inside protection?!?
:)

Very impressive work, got to love some peoples attention to detail.
If you want something long term it might be work getting the paint PPF'd in the the areas where you get stone chips.

We talked about ppf but 90% of my driving is around the city @ low speed only covering about 20kms most days. Chances of stone chips low & ppf cost is quite high but having said that I have to go back in couple of weeks to get ppf to door pillars so could still go with it for front end. Trying not to get too carried away cos have other upgrades in the pipeline

There were two long scratches on the bonnet that were very deep & a stone chip down to the metal that required work before polishing so the bonnet along took almost 1 full day & the delayed delivery wasted another. He applied 2 coats of modesta bc04 & one of bc05 on the body and p01a to prime it. He also applied to glass. 2 layers of gtechniq were applied to wheels, callipers, wheel arches & grill trim.
Applying the coating didn’t take long but using the heat lamp to help it set takes up to 10hrs for each coat.
Either way... when he achieves results like he did I’m happy for him to take as long as needed. For me speed isn’t as important as quality, and as you can see in the 1st video it was covered in swirls & micro scratches . From now on when I clean it at least I won’t be looking at the results of the previous owner washing it with steel wool😳

@N14ll; it looks great  - you must be really pleased with the outcome.
White is a difficult colour to photograph to show it at its best, but the paintwork on your car now looks to be pretty much in factory fresh condition - really glossy and reflective. .
Hopefully the rear number plate’s back on the car now, covering up that bonus screw hole .

Such an excellent job. Had mine done by Midland Car Care and PPF'd at the same time. I do a lot of motorway driving (well did lol). His attention to detail is very good so hats off to him.

Looks a fantastic job, it really brings an added dimension to the white paint.
A lot of graft with amazing results.
I really like that rear diffuser more and more too.
A lot of Rieger stuff can be a bit OTT but occasionally they nail it and that’s a perfect example. The front spoiler add on they did for the mk5 GTI back in the day was another they got spot on.

Man that looks sweet! Still not found the Gti I want. Was convinced I wanted a 7.5, Grey and on 18” wheels. After watching your video I now want white on 19’s

Fully agree about the diffuser, in the flesh for my taste it’s perfect. It adds a bit more presence to the rear end but isn’t ott . Looks almost like it came from VW that way, especially in the gloss black.

:grin:I know what you mean @popinman. When I initially went to look at this car it was just to test drive as I had never driven a GTI, I had my heart set on black or grey but when I saw this combo in the flesh my mind was made up
I love that you can see every detail in the design compared to some of the darker colours where creases in bodywork etc are much harder to notice.

IMO, White is a much easier, more forgiving colour to maintain than black or grey, so I think you made a good choice. I seem to remember that VW used Pure White cars for the official mk7 Golf GTi launch - no doubt because it does show those little design details that would be lost on a dark coloured car.

Looks great, nice music at the end of the video as well👍

👍 Whereabouts in the west are you based?

He's done a really good job on that. I need to stop being so tight and pay someone to do this kind of job on mine. The reflection on that for a white car is incredible. Where is he based?

It doesn't take much convincing to get me to go on a road trip. After all, I went to Holland to collect my Belvedere alloys back when they were uber rare.
