Hi
So a couple of months back I have had some bird poop that fell on the bonnet, by the time I’ve seen it, it had been 12 hours, after finally wiping it off, it appeared to have etched into the paintwork!
A friend of mine hand polished the car and it appeared to remove the etching until a few weeks later if re-appeared, I’m guessing the polish had worn off!
I’ve seen this product:
http://www.autoglymprofessional.com/en/products/reflow.html
Was wondering if anyone has had any experience in using it.
Found a seller on eBay selling it for £40 so thought I try this out first and if this doesn’t work I guess next step would be a machine polish?
Would add a photograph but can’t see an option too add one :-S

The good news is that mostly looks like surface damage so a DA will definitely remove most of it. Certainly the ghosting appearance.
Funnily enough I had the last week on my black car. Hand polished first and thought it was fixed. Next day it was back so had to use a DA.

^+1. My previous car was parked up on a hot, sunny day and one of our feathered ‘friends’ used it for target practice. By the time I’d got back to my car, the bird poo was well and truly baked on to the paintwork. I’ve got my own machine polisher and a few minutes effort using an appropriate combination of pad and polish and all signs of etching were removed.
@Harry213; I’ve no experience of Autoglym Reflow - I think it’s aimed at professionals, although as you’ve found, professional products do turn up for sale on certain well known online auction sites. I’ve seen YouTube videos of people using a heat gun to remove bird poo etching, although I would never be brave enough to do that to my car! Autoglym Reflow probably works using the same principle - i.e. using heat - but through a thermal reaction - to remove etch marks.
If you are happy to give a rough idea of your location and wait until lockdown restrictions are lifted, there may be a forum member who’s a detailing enthusiast with a machine polisher who lives in the same area as you that could sort the etching out for a few beer tokens. From your picture, it looks as if machine polishing will correct it fairly easily - it certainly looks much less severe than the etching damage I polished out on my last car.

Thank you for the advice guys!
Hairdryer method, call me brave.... I suggest more stupid then brave and tried that method after the mark showed up after being polished. It didn’t work for me anyhow not sure how long I was supposed to keep it on but gave up after a few minutes just in case I caused more damage!
I went ahead and purchased the AutoGlym Reflow (Before I saw your guys posts)
So when it arrives I’ll give it a go if not I’ll be going down the machine polishing route!
I’ll keep you guys posted

Let’s us know the results with photos ! I’ve got a couple of old marks I’d like to try them on if they work.

Will do! They are due to arrive 1st/2nd June, so as soon as I’ve tried them
I’ll post the results good or bad on here
Read that the etching needs to be smooth for it to work... mine is a tad bumpy so have low expectations at the minute... hope I’m wrong!

just to provide you guys with an update, the packs arrived this morning, used two and they didn't make any difference at all.
Next stop is to find a detailed to machine polish the bonnet.
Was wondering would it be okay just to get the bonnet machine polished or would I need to get the whole car done?
-
Thanks for the update Harry. Sorry it wasn’t successful and didn’t live up to Autoglym’s claims.
Whether you just get the bonnet polished or the whole car I think depends on the condition of your paintwork. Being black, it will show imperfections if there are any much more than, say a white or silver car, in which case considering getting the whole car done might be a consideration.
When I’ve ever needed to machine polish localised areas of paint work to remove marks such as bird poo etching, just doing the affected area has been fine. I’d say if your paintwork’s in generally good or very good condition with minimal swirling or imperfections, then getting the whole car polished because of bird poo etching on the bonnet is probably overkill, and just getting the bonnet done should be OK.

That’s a bummer.

Thank you for your help guys!
Car is just a year old and the paintwork is pretty decent, apart from the bonnet which the bird etching and some light scratches due to me trying to remove the etching!
Found someone local who has decent following on social media to machine polish the bonnet.
Once again thank you for your help and advice!

For the cost of paying someone to detail your bonnet why not buy the kit and have the use of it in future.
A DA polisher is easy to use and pretty safe. Loads of YouTube videos to watch and detailing world has loads of advice on what to buy and use.
Trust me, it gets addictive !
