Hi everyone
I would like to be able to tweak things, eg set a delay for the headlamp washers operating (they drink washer fluid), set the front fogs to come on with high beam, etc. I have just got an android mobile phone, so could install either software on it now. Before I just had my iPhone and OBDeleven is limited on that.
Carista has a dongle for £21 and the software is £34 for a year (with a one month free trial). It has a huge list of customisations including the above two.
OBDeleven also does the same, and costs 69 Euro for the system and an extra 40 euro for the pro version, which allows long coding, which I guess allows more things to be tweaked.
I'd be happy to try long coding, though very worried I might screw something up, and it doesn't look easy with all of the German needed, so I'd probably use the paid for apps first of all on obdeleven.
To me Carista looks like it is cheaper and would do what I want? \Especially with a free first month.
What are the advantages of OBDeleven over carista, as there must be many for the increased price?
Many thanks for the help I anticipate I will get!
Martin

I had to check your price, as I only paid £15.99 for Carista back in January. I did all I wanted during the free month, so a comparative bargain. Unless you need to be doing changes continually, I can’t think of a reason to spend more. A month gives you chance to make changes and check that they perform as expected.
-
I was just about ready to go and buy Carista for £15.99 for my upcoming GTi, and I also noticed it’s gone up to £21 very recently
-
I did a big thread on Carista a few weeks back...

I have had the OBDEleven since it first came out and have used is regularly for my car and others. Updated it to the next gen version that is considerably faster when I updated I only needed to buy the basic version as my "Pro" account transfers over to it including my free 900+ credits that I will never use as I use long coding and adaptations and not Apps. I would not hesitate to buy another as I have not had any problems. and a doddle to use with just a mobile phone.

ODB11 only works on Android though. If you’re using an iPhone, Carista is the only option. Apple don’t like third parties tinkering with their OS. Which is why Android is more flexible but Apple is more secure.

OBD11 does work on iOS apparently.

OBD11 does work for iOS. My buddy has it. Its just a lot more restricted with what you can do compared to Android.i.e no coding or long coding or live data/freeze frame amongst others.
-
As above, I have OBD11 with my iPhone X and it works great for the Apps, error clearing and reading etc. It is more restrictive in terms of long coding but still good. If you’re on Android then it’s compatible for long coding etc.
-
So all the minor adaptations including comfort indicators, locking bleep etc can be configured with the app on an iphone?
-
I know there’s 2 different central electronic modules and some of the apps are written for the old modules and some new so sometimes the apps don’t work with your car, and that’s why long coding is better, well with obdeleven as I haven’t used carista
-
Is there a list (sticky) somewhere or thread that details the long codes? I have had a look and can't see one
-
OBD11 have a forum and so do ross-tech (vcds). Also if you Google what you want you'll get hundreds of pages to wade through.

Hmm OK - I want to use it on an Arteon. The Carista site says their product cant be used to do the normal tweaks on the Arteon. So I need to buy an an Android phone or find someone who could do it for me?
I have an old (a real one not a copy) Micro-CAN VCDS cable but I understand this wont work either.
-
You really need HEX V2 for the new stuff. Ross Tech drew a line at MY19 vehicles for the old leads.
I had a late 2018 T6 Caravelle, which my old VCDS worked on, but when I changed it for a March 2019 model, despite it being exactly the same vehicle, just 6 months newer, it couldn't access it.
-
Is there anyone who can help? I'm near Peterborough.
I think I must have assisted about 20 people back when I had a Scirocco - when my old VCDS cable worked so maybe someone will return the favour now (for beer tokens of course). It was mostly sat-nav installs and turning off the dreaded headlight DRL system back then.
-
I’m down in Hatfield if that’s any help dude, I got obdeleven

The problem is vw keep changing the way the modules work and cars have different hardware so what can work on one may not work on others, take VIM it only works on MMI With software below 1000, or stop start, only works on MY19 (I think) or earlier, plus about 2016 vw changed the menu system in the central electronics like access system in the older on changes to be ZV, so although people put up lists their not entirely correct

Looking at OBD Eleven/Carista.
Looks like I've missed the boat on a cheap Carista but looking at OBD website I can get device, upgrade to Pro & 200 credits cheaper if I buy them separate rather than the Pro package. Or am I missing something??
TIA

Like the idea of a few tweaks to the default factory stuff. Does anyone know if the digital dash view can be modified in anyway? I've seen some YouTube videos but they seem to be American version golf so wasn't sure if possible or not?
I really don't like the zoomed in version (without nav) of the digital dash, as the dials are ridiculously massive and the centre bit seems wasted, so I always use the zoomed out with nav displayed.
-
Couple of mods I’ve done, some dash ones in there to, U.K. golf

That’s a good shout Dean, cheers. I was going to buy the Carista OBD as I didn’t know the app would work with any Bluetooth reader. All I want to do really is turn off stop/start and have temp reading on auto fan setting in the AC
Do you have a link to the one you bought please?
-
i got carista a while ago as they told me i could enable full brake lights on my mk7 , i got it for £9.99 on offer but i had yo activate the subscription to get 1 month free trial .
found out it cant do much really but is usefull for £40

No you're not missing anything:
Pro Device (with 200 credits): €99.99 + shipping €4.84 = €104.83
Normal Device: €39.99 + Pro License Activation €24.99 + 500 Credits code €32.99 + shipping €4.84 = €102.81
:)
-
You'd be mad to buy 500 credits when the pro licence allows you to long code (it's easy to pick up).
-
Do you still get a free credit each day for just opening the OBD11 app? I built up quite a few by doing that alone.
With these things you’ll burn through quite a few in the first week (100 should suffice) and then settle down to barely any use. Once you get through the apps, you’re into long coding which never used to cost credits (that may have changed since I last used it).
-
It's possible to get 6 free credits per day. One for just opening the app the other 5 for watching some random 30 second adverts.
-
I got 1638 credits left
-
Sound like an opportunity for some 'mates' coding....
-
2 problems with that, I don’t use apps, and I haven’t got any mates
