Title: Lumbar Support Standard or Option?
Post by: Popinman on 24 February 2020, 11:54
Hi guys.  I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger on hopefully a GTi mk7.5 but could also be a mk7, and have (maybe) a stupid question....

Is lumbar support on the standard (check) seats a standard feature or an optional extra?  If optional, is it part of a pack or a stand alone option?

Thanks in advance!

It's standard 👍

A manual/mechanical ratchet lumbar support is standard. However, if you rely on a lumbar support then IMO it’s very poor, especially if you do long journeys. Due to this I specced the electric memory seat to get the 4-way electric lumbar support, and that makes a huge difference.

Horses for courses.

Cool, thanks for the replies guys. @kmpowell - I assume that’s an option on leather only seats? Thanks again.

Yes only on leather.

Yup, I’m not sure why though because AFAIK the externals have no impact on the electric internals.

I didn't even know they did anything vaguely electric on the seats in the GTI's. I'm assuming it was still only part electric seating.

It's a fully electric driver's seat (cost was about £600):
Seat base = forward, backwards, up, down.
Seat back = Recline back, bring forwards.
Electric lumbar adjustment
3 x memory position settings (per key).

I've set my memory functions for the three main types of journeys I do; long motorway driving, having a blast out on A/B roads, and normal 'around town' driving. It's find very handy to switch between the three at the simple press of a button.

:)

Ah interesting. I'd be tempted to keep a look out for one but tbf I'm generally the only one that drives mine so no real issues there. I've got full electric memory in the X5 and had them in the 3er until I fitted the Performance Seats which are manual. Had full electrics in most of my previous cars too, but just never realised they did one for the Golf etc.
