Title: Limited Slip Diff service ?
Post by: Aparat on 22 February 2020, 15:34
Hi everyone.
I have just put a deposit down for 19 plate PP to upgrade from my Gti but wondering about LSD.
Does it need servicing at all or is it sealed for life unit or something else?

No, I have not heard of the LSD being a serviceable part, enjoy your PP when you get it!

I think I will
It's fully loaded with options I wanted, 9-month-old, 7k miles, art velour, Brescia wheels, Dynaudio, 90 tints and all the standard toys...
Could do with another colour but pure white is not that bad on this car I think. Can't have everything especially buying second hand

For starters its NOT an "LSD"...its only the marketing lot at VW who call it this...

Just refer to it as the VAQ or FDL unit.

They require the old fluid draining & new fluid put in every 3yrs regardless of mileage according to the VW ERWIN books...

I did a "thesis" on the unit here:-

So the Front diff lock  does need servicing then... Hope they will know at the dealer when the time comes. They never mention these things tho.
Amazing work golfdave at that link provided.

5yrs on from when it was first introduced as well!!…..it doesn't help that this service item is NOT in the main section of their service book..but at the back under a heading of "country specific" service items...when its not "country specific"...

& yeah thanks!!

30k miles I was told by my local dealer and it shows on the system when vin is input for service apparently. I questioned it and said surely 3 years and was told no it's 30k miles. Confusion still exists 🤷‍♂️😀

I will be changing engine oil every 10k so can do it together. Any info how much dealers charge for FDL oil change? Just out of curiosity.

So I think dealer probably 150-200.
I would like to service my car at dealer just for peace of mind knowing if anything goes wrong they can't blame anyone. I know there are plenty good indy garages out there but that's just me.
Thanks for all replies and have a good weekend.

Good video, thanks.  Anyone got any idea where you get one of those oil filler tubes?

I paid £80 for the oil change at VW. The drain and fill plugs should be replaced at the same time.  The first time they changed the oil they hadn’t got the plugs in stock.  So was in again yesterday to get it done properly.  So 2 oil changes in a month!

i just used one of these and did it all from below, worked fine.

Did mine at 3.5 years and 24K, what came out was nearly as clean as the new stuff.
