Title: Upgrading S/Plugs + Coils

Hey all.

Looking to upgrade to the RS7 spark plugs and RS3 coil packs. Has anyone on here made the upgrade?

Now, I've seen some NGK plugs and coils on AutoDoc for a pretty good price considering OEM coils from Awesome GTI are £114. AutoDoc have loads of other brands too and just wondered if one brand was better and which brands were worth avoiding.

I haven't changed the coil packs, but I've been running the RS7 plugs since I first got DTUK box a few years ago. Now have the mountune map on the car and still no issues. I change them roughly each year, so need to change again soon. Car seems to run well on them and I believe being a heat range cooler prevents pre ignition.

Everything I have read on the subject suggests that if your GTI tune is anything remotely aggressive you need coil packs and plugs or you are going to see coil pack fails and misfires - maybe both.

Coil packs burn out and the plugs need a smaller spark gap - it seems.

Its funny, its not mentioned much on this forum though.

I would add, I'm not an expert or even someone needing to solve the problem- I just read a lot!

I haven't had any issue with misfires on standard coils for nearly three years of tune in one form or another. I've read before about gaping needing to be smaller, but I just left the RS 7 plugs with the standard gap and no issues either. I'm not saying you shouldn't do the coil packs, just that I've had no issue with the standard ones.

You're right, I didn't see anything mentioned on here whilst researching. I had a coil pack go on me the other day so looking at replacing the lot inc spark plugs but there isn't too much info out there other than replace with RS7 plugs + RS3 coils.

Spoke to Audi who want £289 for plugs and coils.

I can get NGK plugs and NGK coils from AutoDoc for ~£130

This is what most seem to suggest rather than genuine audi R8 parts - but this is basically a NGK part for the R8:

Parts numbers are;

Coils - 06H905110L
Plugs - 06K905601M

Think the kit above is for a previous gen.
