Title: Map updates
Post by: BristolBob on 16 January 2020, 17:11
Could someone let me know whether the latest updated map available for download is dated 11th July 2019 or 7th November?

https://webspecial.volkswagen.de/vwinfotainment/int/en/index/downloads/maps-download#/?car=eae8e75f-2cdf-455e-8f82-8aba0846573e&navi=f7d60bb5-e4c7-4f15-a629-ed994e464a9f

Many thanks

Bob

My first post on the site having bought a 4 month old TCR 10 days ago. The SD card box with the car said V9 but when I checked the card, it was V6! I complained to the dealer who sent me a V10 card/box, so assume that's the latest?

Can't quite remember, do you need to update the maps using the VW discovercare app or can you do it manually ?

Either. Pretty foolproof with the DiscoverCare software though

Will discovercare always pick up the latest version though ?

I found discover care rubbish and just update manually.

pretty much irrelevant what's on the card as you can update the maps manually anyway and you over write what's on the card each time you update.

^^^^ All of this. Plenty of information on here about how to update, using either Discover Care, which I haven’t even tried, or manually, which is not difficult, if you follow the steps outlined elsewhere on here. Sounds like you now have a spare VW Nav card, funboxster, which will be saleable, either on here or on eBay.

out of interest, where are the November 2019 updates, as the link above seems to refer to July 2019 updates only ?

Dates are in different format. They are 7th November.

If you do have a spare I may be interested because for the life in me I can't get the maps to update using a standard SD card. I'm still on the maps that came out of the factory.

Do you not have a supplied VW card then? The process is to back up the old VW nav card data onto your PC, format the VW nav card and then expand the downloaded update onto it. Nav info can only be used from an oem VW nav card, but the card can be updated with new nav data.

Nope, no VW SD card, that'll be why I can't update them then.

It's only nav pro that uses any SD card. As Talk-torque said you can only use the VW SD card to update Discover nav. Do you have nav pro?

In that case then you won't have a VW supplied card and can use a minimum 32gb card. Maps are easy to update, what exactly are you having a problem with?

It was a while ago since I last tried but if I remember correctly it was getting to ~95% and failing. I just binned it off in the end and stuck with Google Maps/Waze but it would be nice to have the OEM maps up to date.

Do you have restrictions on your downloads from your broadband supplier? Make sure you delete any old downloads and maybe try downloading during the night and make sure your computer doesn't go to sleep while downloading.

........and make sure you are downloading the correct version of the update for your head unit. The data for Discover Nav Pro is different to that for the standard Discover Nav and there are a couple of versions of each unit.

I'll have to give it another go when I'm next off work. Cheers for the replies.

Just completed the update, using the VW Discover Care software, on my laptop.

My broadband speed is 150 Mbps, but the laptop Wi-Fi connection is around 40 Mbps. The update took about 1 1/2 hours.

The last time I tried this was on my desktop using an external card reader. Discover Care did not work and I had to download and install the maps manually. So the VW update software may not work with certain hardware.
